I'm an asshole, of sorts.
If I think someone wants to get over, but is not using their turn signal, I make an effort to insure they don't get over in front of me. However, if I SEE a signal? I make an effort to let them get over.
It takes less effort to flick a turn signal on than make an obscene gesture, and is a lot cheaper than an accident.

I've been reading your blog on occasion for a couple of years. I just realized you must live very near to me, if you're cruising at Roswell Rd and Indian Hills parkway at 2:00 in the afternoon on a weekday. You could be my neighbor! Keep up the good work, neighbor. I enjoy your blog. I'll be lookin fer ya on the street now. I'll try to use my turn signal and drive appropriately.

Having recently lived in Washington state, where it is a crime not to let anyone with a flashing turn signal in, and where it is even more a crime not to give a courtesy wave when they do so, I am Very Unpleasantly Reminded that the whole world does not behave that way when I flip my turn signal on on Northern California and people take it as a signal to rush forward to ensure I cannot get in -- the courtesy wave takes on a decidedly different shape in such circumstances.

I don't use my turn signal at all for maybe months at atime. But ten when I drive 300 miles I most probably will not see more than 10 cars. This morning I drove 90 miles and had the road to myselfg all the way.
The Bliss.
