We done got us a Triptik the other day...just for the hell of it. I maintain my triple A for the heck of it. Damn thing doesn't talk like my Garmin, but it is still very cool...the old days
Seriously, my Garmin just plain works. From Miami to Seattle, Kittery to San Diego...and all points in between. Like that damn bunny. I've had one since they came out...my woman dropped and broke the shit out of it, so I had to replace it with a wide screen model. My favorite was approaching Helen...stopped at a red light.
"turn left in 13 ft". I'm like, WTF. Eased off the brake for 5 ft. Garmin says, "turn left in 8 ft."
I kid you not...amazing technology.
I love the checkered flag when you are "arriving at destination".
Race over...Good stuff.
I also like how it tracks your MIN and MAX speeds. My woman to me..."who was doing a hundred and forty two...me, sweetie pie, it was just for a second."
Don't leave home without it.
Bwahahahahah!!!!

I too am a firm believer in those navigational doo-dads. I've had one in my last couple of cars and wouldn't be without it. I am NOT cartographically challenged, in fact I'm very good with maps and such, but I don't like unfolding a map in front of me whilst driving. It's even handy locally, when a road I'm on is suddenly closed for an accident or construction and I'm directed into side streets where you never know which ones go through and which ones dead-end.
When renting a car out in Scottsdale I got a Garmin to play with and I noticed its vocal idiosyncrasies. My favorite is how words are put together in strange ways, like when she kept telling me "Kee pleft".

"Even he saw that there was value in having a doo-dad that would bark navigational orders at you as you drove places."
Hell, I have a wife who does that...
