Hi Sam

Nice to see your list o important posts includes "Tearing down the Curtain". his was one of the first posts I read on your blog, and one of the reasons why I becaem a fairly frequent visitor,

What's more, I came on today, looking for that very post, because I planned to quote it in a sermon...only it doesn't say exactly what I remembered it to say.

You have your 'spectrum of Christian understanding' as:

Far left - WORD ALONE
Left - WORD and sacrament
Centre - WORD AND SACRAMENT
Right - Word and SACRAMENT
Far Right - SACRAMENT ALONE

I had remembered it as a spectrum of Eucharistic theology, something along the lines of 'just a symbol' at the top and 'full-blown Roman Catholic Transubstantiation' at the bottom.

From your studies and experience, would you be able to break down this Eucharistic theology Spectrum into five bands? eg I know there is one called 'consubstantiation', but after that I get stuck.

I look forward to hearing from you!

(the gist of my sermon comes from Rob Bell's Velvet Elvis, learning to be less rigid and exclusive in our theological perspectives, recognising that God is bigger than our ideas. The service will culminate in communion, so i was going to invite the congregation to practice what I had preached by trying a position to the left or right of their normal one on that spectrum.)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Simon
