While we're on the subject, can any of your brainy readers please tell me where the 700 BILLION US Dollars are going to come from to BUY BAD DEBTS? The last figures I could find for the US Trade Deficit were $62.2 Billion (July 08 US Census).
Bad debt anyone...? Anyone want to buy a bad debt...?

Wisdom! Let us attend.
That's the best suggestion I've heard to date.

Good suggestion, which McCain and Palin would never consider in a million years. I am still baffled why you support them. The most charitable possible explanation is ignorance.

Nah... the truth is I'm an unreconstructed redneck Christianist bigot, and unapologetic about it too

...and he said that with a cringeworthy wink to camera and a "You betcha!"...
...but hey, I am just an unrecosntructed Socialist! As Rosa Luxemburg famously wrote in the Julius pamphlet: the choice that faces us is between barbarism and socialism....

The trouble with socialism - IMHO - is that it depends on the state too much. Now if we're talking about anarcho-socialism then we might find much more common ground

I am off to sit at the feet of Dave Andrews in a few weeks' time, he of radical Christian community work in India and Australia. Recent book 'Christi-anarchy' underscores a deal of how I see a Christian social and political programme mapping out.
Suspect there is much common ground, as it goes.
...but I regret the laziness of always bundling the terms 'state' and 'socialism' together! Rather smacks of lecture number one to the ill-informed undergrad with no political or social history under their belt!
We can have some interesting chats on retreat if and when we break our Benedictine silences!?!...

How would you put something like this into practice? Who are "the poorest"?
