So they sent him to look under the rocks of the Catholic church to expose the slimy bugs crawling there, and he loses his faith.
Tony, your off just a bit here on the origins of Rod's involvement with the Scandal. He wasn't ordered by an employer to dig under the rocks. He chose to do so on his own. When he started going down that path, he did so with the best intentions on his part. The evil he found there corrupted him to some extent. That's what makes this all the more sad.

I did a piece on the Dreher conversion, and what struck me as somewhat wierd, was a self proclaimed devout Catholic working for an industry which hates the Catholic Church.
So they sent him to look under the rocks of the Catholic church to expose the slimy bugs crawling there, and he loses his faith.
He found sinful men at the highest levels of the Catholic Church? Stop the presses!!! Dog bites man!
I hope his employer doesn't ask him to investigate his newfound church. He might find sinful men there too.

The irony is to ask ourselves how the Scandal happened: part of it was priests (i.e. bishops) giving in to their warm feelings for other priests in not wanting to do the harsh but needful thing (i.e. defrock them or otherwise limit their ministry). Feelings, rather than logic, could be at least part of what got us into this mess.
