anon...the thought that I was trying to convey is that Phillips' hyper-patriarchy movement was his attempt to swing the pendulum away from feminism. Somewhere in the middle is a happy medium.

I concur with this comment.
Phillips is a hyper-Calvinist who teaches heresy. His model for marriage and family life are NOT compatible with Catholic teaching. Saying so does not make one a 'feminist.'

I think that women might be reacting to Douglas Phillips as much as to that letter. Phillips and his crowd are hyper-patriarchalists and yes...a woman's job is to serve her husband and have babies. Period. Oh yes. Home-schooling.
The attitudes taught either border on or are outright...if a man even consults his wife on any issue, he is abdicating his position as patriarch of the home. Women are "reflections" of God's image, not a direct image. They are truly "second-class citizens" of the church and family.
Many women come out of this movement angry at God, angry at hierarchy of any sort in the church and home and some come out feeling outright abused by God, the church and their husband.
The patriarchy movement is (I believe) a "shove-back" against feminism, but it shoves in the wrong direction and healthy marriages are the casualty.
