I saw those in the newsletter, very nice. Oh, and not giving you credit - VERY BAD! Perhaps some e-mails to the editors are in order.
Drew: They have given designer credit here and there. It's just inconsistent. Hey, I was able to pay my electric bill that month...thank you Lion Brand!

(sigh) Lion Brand would miss us all if we stopped buying their yarn wouldn't they?
Love the potholders.. sadly I have a front loading machine and so I don't felt.
Drew: I felted these in a front-load washer! I just used the hottest water setting with the longest cycle and they felted beautifully!

I saw these in the newsletter as well, and thought how nice they'd be to make. I really do wish Lionbrand would give the designers credit.
Drew: I'm so happy you like them!

How "Ikea" like! Very cool! So when Lion Brand publishes your pattern do you lose your rights to it?
Drew: Yep, they buy all rights to the pattern. "Ikea-like"... that's just about the nicest compliment ever! LOL - thanks!!

Did you get paid? It's a shame they don't give credit to their designers. Wonder what the reasoning behind that is??? Great job though...They will definitely be in my drawer!!
Drew: Hi Cheryl. Yep, they paid for the design and the finished pieces. It's kind of a random thing with yarn companies. Sometimes they give credit, and sometimes they don't. They own the design now so I guess they can pretty much handle it either way.
I hope you'll send a photo when you finish yours!

Soooooo I just went to the LB site to see what was new and downloaded this cool potholder pattern and then came right over to see what was new on the Crochet Dude's blog...to see the same cool potholders pictured right up top...crochet coincidence? Thanks for the pattern! When does the email blitz to LB for credit to designers begin?? I'm in!!
Drew: LOL - sounds like a full day!
Glad you like them!!

Wow, I love them! The colours are great, and the designs are simple and effective and fun... Shame about not getting any credit, but WE all know who the talented genius behind Lion Brand's on-going financial success truly is!
Drew: Aw shucks, yer makin' me blush!

I love 'em! And I've been looking for new fun small stuff to make while it's still hot out. (And Beth - I'd still felt them in the front loading washerr - size isn't so crucial for the hot-pads. I suggest making them with a bigger hook, or adding a few rows, so when they felt down they're still a usable size.)
Drew: Thanks Tami!

Those are gorgeous!
FWIW, the not crediting designers thing has a lot to do with the fact that many projects are designed in-house and simply made up by someone else so the idea of who gets the credit gets a little muddly.

Hey, as soon as I saw these in the newsletter, I loved them. I'm not surprised that they are your's, since I love all your stuff. I've noticed that about Lion Brand - they don't always give credit. I wonder why?

drew: i'm so glad you're not a yarn snob! i love lion brand, too, and it's a *lot* less expensive than some of the other wools. i like the others for some non-felted projects.

*gasp* I also saw them and liked them, especially because they were felted and I wouldn't get burned through the little holes in non-felted crochet. Now that I know you disigned them I might just have to practice my color changing (and I do need practice). Maybe right after I finish my flip-flop coasters :p
FYI: I also felt in my front loading washer.

I'm such a geometric, clean line, scandinavian-inspired design kind of person, and I'm now in love with your potholders. Right up my alley. I'm going to have to make 'em. Thanks for sharing your genius.
P.S. I emailed Lion Brand all innocent-like and asked who designed the striking potholders. I'll let you know what I hear back!
Drew: I can't wait to hear what/if they say anything!

They are gorgeous! I swear my plan for '07 is to learn to crochet. If I keep coming back to see what you're up to, then I'll be forced to do it. How could I not??
Drew: I think you should learn right now! Woo hoo!

Saw those in the Lion newsletter. My first thought was, "Those off-center color blocks would drive my OCD b/f insane." My second thought was, "Gotta make 'em!"

I was thinking about felting something and I was wondering how much bigger I should make the item. Thoughts? Advice?
Drew: Hi Regina, when I felt knitting I always double the size, when I felt crocheting I make the item 1 1/2 times the finished size. So far that's worked for me!
