We had a guest at our wedding named Dean; Dean's daughter was also invited. I thought Dean was a he and addressed the invitation to "Mr. and Mrs. Dean So-and-so" (thinking the daughter was the wife). Nope, it should have been "Mrs. Dean So-and-so and Miss Blank So-and-So." I felt sheepish when I got the RSVP (and I was mad at Mr. Angst for not telling me Dean was a she).

Plus, I once met a guy named Leslie. I think that's a girl's name, but what do I know?

I think Leslie and Ashley and Lauren and a lot of other names we think of as girls' names today used to be men's names in days gone by.
And don't forget (female) 11th Circuit Judge Frank Hull.
