I broke the knob on my dryer that you turn to start the dry cycle. 4 years ago. I use pliers, scissors, whatever was handy to start it. I didnt' want to pay the $8 and $5 shipping to order a new one. It drove the Boy nuts so one day he went to a local hardware store and they had a whole bin of knobs and gave him one for free. 4 years of using my pliers (which I still refer to as dryer starters) and they gave him the dang thing for free.
