Gravatar Blah... While Kris was in Iraq I wrote to him every day - but not letters. I couldn't afford enough stamps to send off the amount of mail that I wrote him. I filled up a notebook with letters to him every day, like a diary - telling him about the ongoings of my day and whatnot. At first he really dug it - like, when he got his first one mailed to him he was like a little kid waiting to open a christmas present to devour everything I wrote. By the third one he was bored with it. =(
I guess everything I had to say sounded like the same old stuff.
But what I noted he LOVED was when I sent him tapes of me talking to him. I sent one off with every package. Sometimes it was just me telling him about my day, sometimes it was telling him funny stories, and sometimes it was me singing and playing guitar to him. He never got bored of those, and he would listen to them until they were worn out. Anywho - there ya go.
Amanda

Gravatar Tapes are a cool idea. If Clark hadn't been so into the idea of getting mail I probably would have had to be more resourceful.

As for stamps...well I lucked out; I work for a law firm that pretends to be community-minded. Translation: providing me with stamps was their idea of doing their patriotic duty.

Clark used to call and be whiny (as if he were neglected or something) if he got less than three letters a week. But I know I spoiled the man rotten...

Gravatar I don't know how to put this, so I'll just say it, especially since I know she will never see it. I have been here 7 going on 8 months. I was away from my wife for almost the entire year before that for Airborne and special forces training. I sent my wife a letter a day, and I religiously keep a blog, send emails, and call now. I have recieved one package, no letters, and I can count on one hand the # of emails I have recieved. In those few emails, my wife complains about the things she has to do, like working 3 days a week, having to organize things such as having the movers come pack our house, or flying to Hawaii to see her parents. I haven't said anything about it because we have a one year old, and she is pregnant with our second child. It is hard for me to decide whether she is really having a hard time, or is just lazy...considering I work 20 hours a day almost every single day. Whew, felt good to bitch for once...what do you think?

Gravatar Chad, Thank you again for all that you are doing and the sacrifices you are making. I, personally, am eternally grateful to each and everyone of the soldiers, like you, who are out on the front lines, guaranteeing our freedom.

When Clark was gone, writing to him and sending packages was cathartic for me. It made me feel a little closer to him, and I felt like maybe, in a small way, I could return the encouragement he always gave me.
