I think the military stays with you in one way or another, even if you are (or were, in my case) a military girlfriend/fiance/wife. Even after my soldier and I went our seperate ways, it was still hard for me to completely tear myself from anything and everything miltiary. Especially being involved in a deployment, you get used to being a part of it in some way. I still read "milblogs" for other perspectives, I still read up on what's going on in the military world, I get distracted by uniforms, machinery, trucks, even the little yellow ribbons on the back of people's cars. It's just a whole different world, but once you become part of that world for a long period of time, it's hard to change it...but I guess as it's hard to change anything that you're used to...such as the transition to college, or the "real world." My soldier isn't even technically a soldier anymore as of this past week, but I know it'll always be a big part of him, and a significant part, no matter how big or small, of me as well. I even kind of miss it.
