I have a question EP - given the definition of Militarism that you've shared with us, is there a political dynasty that you can think of that survived on this principle? This is not a rhetorical question - I'm wondering if militarism is necessarily short-lived in the modern era (ancient dynasties OFTEN saw war as an expressive activity).
And thanks for the series.

Where is neoconservatism?
Neoconservatives believe, to take an example, that ceteris paribus unfriendly democracies are much better strategically and morally than friendly dictatorships. Egypt and Saudi Arabia have friendly governments, but they use hatred of the West to keep themselves in power. This creates the fanaticism resulting in airplanes flying into skyscrapers "realists" claim stability precludes. It doesn't. In contrast, France and Russia aren't exactly friendly, but there is zero risk of us going to war with them.
