Gravatar I didn't check the link, but I thought she was 42?

There are several issues to consider with the torture debate - more than I can really discuss in one post. I would note, however, that Military Order #1 specified that the detainees would be treated humanely. I have little doubt that if one were to simulate the drowning of a dog, we would consider that inhumane. I can't by any stretch of the imagine how it would not be considered inhumane to do to a human being.

Gravatar Glad to hear from you, Steve. I checked several sources--she was 52. And I'm with you on the waterboarding.

Gravatar Glad to hear from you too EP, it's been too long.

Gravatar ABC This Week used a Leno clip that went something like:
"Bush picked Kissinger to help him fight VietNam again. Might as well; Bush missed it the first time."
That was a paraphrase; the way Leno said it, it was actually funny.

And to quote John Sebastian, "Welcome back."

Gravatar Well, the reservist hit the nail on the head. Poorly trained and or lack of training. Personally it astounds me that more reservists aren't casualties in Iraq. Speaking from first hand knowledge and experience as a former Army Reservist (who went active duty), reserve duty was nothing more than weekend getaways. We did absolutley nothing. we never trained in our MOS, when went to qualify with our M-16's we mainly just shot at cans and whatever happened to be on the range. Whoever was in charge just passed everybody on general principle. We played cards, we took the Humvees out drove around all day. I forgot more military training in the reserves than I ever did once I was out and a veteran. The standard for reserve units has been rock bottom. And now it's those reservists that are paying for it in the most costly manner.

Gravatar Welcome back EP, i missed you

Absolutely fascinating book, just as rivoting as his Nixon expose.

Gravatar I missed you, English Professor.

Gravatar Kissinger: first, Woodward saying so doesn’t necessarily make it so. Either way is irrelevant to my point. How does one learn? Usually by mistake. Perhaps it stands to reason that a loss in Vietnam (which can hardly be shouldered by Kissinger alone) and several decades of life experience might work to his favor? Nonetheless, we are talking about advice, aren’t we?

“Tough Tactics”: this term is most certainly not equivalent to torture.

52 year-old grandmothers: stating “this war being fought by 52-year-old grandmothers manning machine guns” lends the inference that the entire U.S. military is comprised of such. Although we know this is not the case, it seems a bit disingenuous to me to take one soldier and make a blanket statement based on that individual.

Nice to see you back in action.

Gravatar Glad to have you back.

Gravatar Would you punish a dog by putting him in a cell for years on end? Dogs aren't humans and humans aren't dogs.
