Gravatar David Frum has a few things to say about that:

Gravatar Rich: That resentment is in part about race, of course.

Kee-rist. Rich is SUCH a frickin' boor, as are the tired old tropes he consistently trots out.

I'm not a Palinista by any means, but people like Rich just give me a massive case of the redass. As opposed to, ya know, redNECK.

Gravatar Frank Rich is a prick on stilts - let's take that as read - but he's not wrong about this.

I agree. I didn't vote for McCain/Palin and I wouldn't vote for Palin in '12. But Obama, for whom I voted for one reason only - national health - is making a hash of that as he is with everything else. After living in Illinois for 30 years I was leery, but I did it anyway. Mistake.

Where can "fiscally conservative social progressives" and others in the great unwashed middle of the political spectrum turn? We have no one to lead from the center. I am beginning to wonder if there is a political center. Maybe there are only the two lunatic extremes.

I am spending the summer in the boonies. I might not return to "civilization" if this is all we have to offer. Maybe my cousin is right. A man's best friends might very well be a 30-06, a 12-gauge, a 45 mag and a 9 mil.

Gravatar re health: the insurance co's are parasites on the well being of the country. eliminate them and save, oh, 20 billion a minute. at least.

also: palin is a poke in the eye to anyone who ever worked hard and raised themselves up from where they were born, or were born high and worked to get higher. knownithingism was unattractive a century ago, and it is unattractive now. it serves nobody but the meanest and most ignorant
