Do you really want "the American left to STFU" about Diebold? The machines are unbelievably easy to hack -- I don't see this as a right/left issue, just want to make sure that votes count regardless of party or candidate.

Yes. Yes, I do, and thanks for asking.
*Any* election technology can be tampered with, and Diebold, who makes ATM machines as its primary product line, does know a little something about how to design electronic machines with suitable audit trails for, you know, TRACKING HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF COMMERCE EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Most of the stories that *I* saw about how easy the machines are to hack were from people with axes to grind; e.g., Open Source movement weenies who were pissed that they couldn't get a look at the source code.
The wild conspiracy theories - "OMG, Diebold is owned by Republicans, the electronic voting machines are going to disenfranchise us permanently" - are precisely what I would like, but do not expect, the left to STFU about now, because rationality has never been their strong suit.
