From the moment I enter this country, I immediately understood that private health care is just a pure abomination.
How can a private company which main goal is to make money and not necessary provide good health to its clients can be credible ? It's not and will never be.
Now that doesn't mean that private companies are pure evil. They could provide complementary services and that would work. By the way, In France it's like that. My main health costs are absorbed by the public service (which responds extremely quickly and pay a visit *at your home*) and the complementary services (that you pay extra of course) gives you extra reimbursements.

The Netherlands has a system that works well but is not (as I read it) actually state run. More directly to M. Dufour's point: In a competitive market system one has the choice to vote with one's feet. If you are not getting good service/good care, go to another doctor/hospital/clinic/pharmacy.
