Gravatar Awww, she is too cute. And she did a fabulous job on her apron!

Gravatar She looks thrilled, and I'm sure you were too!

Very impressive for a 9 yer old! Great job, Mikaela!

Gravatar This is the best this I've see/heard all day!

Gravatar Your little daughter looks pleased as can be with her first project. Best wishes to both of you--I hope she has many projects to come.

Gravatar You are so blessed. I WISH my daughter had even the slightest inkling to learn anything domestic. My favorite passions she couldn't care less about. Oh well, I never could do death-defying flips on a diving board or kick a soccer ball. (nor do I have her killer body and looks)

Gravatar Awesome! She did such a great job on her new apron. And how adorable is she?? Of course, since she's your daughter.

Gravatar Erica, Mikaela is just about as precious as anyone can be. I love her apron! the fabric and color choices were perfect. Kudos to her, her apron doesn't look like a first project. She obviously has been watching and learning

Gravatar Fantastic apron Mikaela!! I bet all your school friends think it's pretty cool! If you want to see what other 9yo's are sewing (in particular my daughter) you can have a look here under "Sewing By Kids" - http://www.picturetrail.com/sew4fun

My DD thought your apron was great.
Enjoy your new machine!!

Gravatar That is so awesome! I wish my mom had time to teach me when I was young.

Gravatar Awwwwwwwwww! This just warms my heart, Erica! Congrats on your baby girl finishing her first of many projects. That is so special. I always wanted my mother to teach me to sew but she never did. But I'm not bitter. OK, maybe just a little bit. ;0)

Gravatar ADORABLE! I made my first sewing project (a linen bag for storing bread) on a real sewing machine when I was eleven! Your daughter is so lucky to have you!!

Gravatar Erica, Your daughter did a great job on her apron! So stylish too. I can't wait to see what she sews next.

Susan C

Gravatar OMG any sewing diva is born!!She did a beautiful job.

Gravatar now,, that is cute
she will be the next diane F.
lol

Gravatar Oh Erica! That is so wonderful it kind of made me a teary eyed. Truly. What an amazing gift to give to your daughter and a wonderful hobby to share with her.

Gravatar Congratulations to Mikaela! That apron came out wonderfully! I remember bugging my mom to teach me to sew as a kid, and my first gazillion projects didn't have near the polish that her apron has!

Gravatar How cute!!

Now, can Mikaela convince you to start sewing classes for the rest of us??
I'm in NC. Prehaps Mikaela and the family would like to take a field trip!

Inspire on!

Gravatar She is too cute!! And what a great looking apron, congratulations to both of you.

Gravatar Wow, Mikaela, I'm impressed! What a really nice job you've done. Great fabric selection too. I also like your confident modeling...so like your mom in that!

Erica, another thing that struck me was that you said Mikaela read the instruction book cover to cover. That is the sign of someone who can figure out anything in life, and on their own. That's a precious skill to have.

Gravatar very cute! great job mikaela!

Gravatar She is a cutie! Congrats on her first sewing project...it turned out beautiful!

Gravatar Congrats to Mikaela! She did an amazing job. Obviously talent runs in the family.

Gravatar Talent runs in the family!!!!!

She is so cute and she looks so proud. I like the apron too.

Gravatar WOW! Rickrack on her first project? Well done girl. You rock!

Gravatar That is too cute! She did a great job!

Gravatar That is so cute! Your daughter is adorable, you may have the next Tracy Reese on your hands.

Gravatar Awww - fabulous job! I'm looking forward to teaching my own little girl how to sew - she's already pretty good at picking up mama's pins from the carpet! *eek*

Gravatar How cute!!

Gravatar That smile says it all !! Good job Mikaela. Stick with it. I always wish that I had stayed with my lessons.

Gravatar Cute apron and adorable seamstress!! Congratulations, Mikaela, wonderful job

Gravatar Oh wow! Look at her go!!

I think it's fantastic that she is so keen on learning to sew.

Gravatar Now, this is really interesting, considering our last email exchange about how kids learn how to sew now. Lucky Mommy, lucky daughter for sure. And her own sewing machine as well (now that's forthought!!). Another convert to the cause.

Gravatar Very cute!!! Jaelyn is still trying to control the machine! lol

Gravatar Good for her! One for staying on top of you to teach her how to sew and second for doing a great job. I have the Sew Simple magazines and they have tons of great projects I want to start.

Congratulations!

Gravatar She did a great job!!!

Gravatar How sweet! My daughter has NEVER shown any interest whatsoever in sewing! I'm a little jealous. Mikaela did a great job on her first project. I'm sure you're very proud. I'm eager to see her blog!!!

Gravatar She did such a great job! It is so wonderful that she is thrilled about sewing (and has such an excellent teacher) at a young age. I can't wait to see what she sews up next.

Gravatar Erica:
What a great job your daughter did!!! That's a terrific idea for a first project.

I'm curious though.... why did you have her trace the pattern with a highlighter?

Gravatar Your daughter is so cute and she did an amazing job! Way to go Mom!

Gravatar How darling is that? I wish my little girls had wanted to learn. Well, I guess it's never too late. What a neat bonding experience you two had.

Gravatar Thanks for all of the wonderful comments... it was a proud mommy moment!

Bonnie,
I had her trace the pattern pieces because it was a multi-sized pattern and the lines overlapped and I wanted her to be able to cut out her size.

Gravatar Bravo, Mikaela! Take a bow! (applause, applause) Fabulous colors, workmanship.

Erica -- I'm so jealous. Maybe I'll have a granddaughter someday that will want to sew. (sigh)

Gravatar What a great job she did!!!

That took me back... I started sewing at 9 too - a doll pinafore dress and hat out of my mom's scraps. So it was made out of red paisley with mint crepe ruffles. I still have it!

I also remember a 'helpful' lady that summer explaining how I could have put the ribbon ties for the hat inside the seams instead of looped and tacked on. I didn't want to hear it! It was perfect!

Gravatar You made my day, too!

Gravatar She did a wonderful job. It's a beautiful first project. A new diy diva is born!! BRAVO!!

Gravatar What a little cutie pie! Good for her for learning to sew early. Her first project is great!

Gravatar Aww what a precious baby!! Makes me wish Id had a girl. Good looking out, mom! She did an excellent job but she has an excellent teacher so duh.

Gravatar WOW! WOW! WOW! I think that is so awesome! She did a great job.

Gravatar YAY Mikaela!

~ she really did a good job, then again she has the world's best at her side helping her.

Gravatar Congratulations on your first project Mikaela! It turned out great. Next thing you know, you will be starting your own sewing blog.

Gravatar She is too cute. I love that ya'll are doing something together and she's learning a wonderful trade.

Gravatar How wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait til my twins are responsible enough...I'm starting them out with some crocheting first LOL

Gravatar Beautiful apron!!! That is such an inspiration. Little DIY Fashionista. Awwwww...

Gravatar how cute!!! she did a great job

Gravatar Hello sewing family. Erica, You are such an inspiration. Your daughter is truly blessed, not just because she's learning to sew, but because her mom is teaching her. I can't wait to I finish my class so I can pass along all that I've learned to my daughter. This is the type of activities and hobbies that keep our children focused and on the straight and narrow. Congrats. Today an apron, tomorrow a couture gown

Gravatar That is great, I've had my sewing machine for two months and I still haven't finished my purse, she has just inspired me to do that. THANKS! The apron is so cute!

Gravatar That is wonderful Erica! I am so glad you took the time to do that. Tell her her apron came out really neat! Motivates me to continue working w/ my 9 year old. She is also eager to learn. More power to the young ones!

Gravatar aww that is so nice of you. i wish i had a sewing mama to teach me too!!!

Gravatar What fun!!! I am so excited for Mikaela!! She will definitely be giving you a run for your money by the end of the summer!

The apron is so C-U-T-E!! Perfect project!

Y'all should take a pic together with both of you wearing your aprons!! :o)

Can't wait to see the other items she sews up! This will be one fun summer for her! And one to truly remember!! Aaaaaaahhh!

Gravatar YOU HAVE YOUR OWN MINI ME! How FABULOUS is this????????????????? Wow...girl...just...wow. I soooooooooooo HATE YOU. LOL!

Gravatar Oh Lord, how adorable is she. And so clever. Its so awesome that you're teaching her to sew.

Gravatar cutest thing ever! can't wait to teach my DD~

Gravatar Nice to see a great family tradition being continued onto the next generation. How proud you must be of your baby girl.

Gravatar Go head witcha bad self Mikaela!!!!!!

Gravatar What a beautiful memory this will be and a great tradition too. Do you still have your apron? I love the photo of Mikaela with her sewing machine. You can see the joy in her eyes. The apron is adorable. Now you guys can make some cookies together too. Eat one for me, chocolate chip sounds good.

Gravatar I love how proud your DD looks of her new sewing machine. & she read the instruction book cover to cover. Very cool!!

Gravatar Congratulations Mikaela )) Your apron is fabulous and I can see how much you really enjoyed your first project.
Well done Erica, you are a great Mom..or Mum as we say here DownUnder.

Gravatar Her smile makes my heart swell. Tell her GREAT JOB!!!

Gravatar she is so cute. I like how she is leaning against the machine. LOL. I see a mom-daughter design team in the future.

Tell great job.

Gravatar OMG!!!!
I need to get my 10 (almost 11) yo learning right now!!!!!
Fabulous job Mikaela!!!

Gravatar What a great job Mikaela did on the apron. She's definitely following in the footsteps of her mom. How inspiring!

Gravatar She did a wonderful job, and I am now inspired to try too. She is precious and definitely a budding fashionista!!!

Gravatar Absolutely adorable! Congrats on helping and inspiring the next generation!

Gravatar She looks sooo proud of herself and the apron is very cute. I think you are absolutely wonderful for starting her so early with fashionistic skills. Way to GO!! Does she like to cook yet?

Gravatar What a great job! Both of you should be so proud! My two oldest daughters (10 and are learning too. They love making American Girl outfits. The older one wants to make her own outfit and I'm not sure what to start with. I was thinking pajama pants. But I'll be sure to watch your blog and see what you guys do next, I'm sure it will be fabulous!!

Gravatar Not sure whay I got the smiley face but my daughters are 10 and 8. I really hate computers sometimes....

Gravatar You obviously did a fabulous job teaching her! She did a great job and should be so proud of herself

Gravatar Wow Mikaela, that is one fantastic apron! Well done!!

Gravatar Congratulations, Mikaela!

And congratulations to Mom!

This is an example of what modeling the next generation is all about. From stylin' photos to well made apparel!

Gravatar What a beautiful apron! Great colors, Great design! Kudos to Mikaela!

Gravatar Now that right there is a beautiful job. I wish someone would teach me how to sew... or knit.

Gravatar Erica B. you are TRULY gifted and talented and I hope that the right someone in the fashion industry stumbles across your website and discovers your talent so you could put it to good use in the world of fashion and design! :-D

Keep up the fabulousness~

Gravatar That's great. You're never too young to learn.

Gravatar So very cute!! Excellent job to both of you! Keep passing on your skills Erica!

Gravatar This sounds so fun...a nice mother and daughter bonding experience. She looks so proud of her work too...as she should be!

Gravatar Great job! I've got an apron pattern I've been planning to make--Mikaela, you've inspired me!

Gravatar Mikela, love your new machine. Great job on your first project. You wear it well!

Gravatar I was so moved by this post, Erica. I hope to nurture the same loving relationship with my own baby girl. Mikaela did an outstanding job!

Gravatar Thats amazing. It turned out great.

Gravatar Wow, I remember the sewing and pattern making in school. If that's what she wants to go to school for she'll be well prepared. She did a really good job on the skirt.

I came across your blog from batchplease, I would love to be on your blog roll and you on mine. My blog is www.thetrendsetter.wordpress.com. Let me know what you think.

Truly Curvaceous

Gravatar that's why i want to have a girl! so we can sew together. so cute!!
you're such a great mom Erica

Gravatar That is so great! I love it! She did a great job!!!

Gravatar I lurk here often...I didn't read all of the posts, but I am impressed that she was able to use a rotary cutter to cut out her pattern pieces...I am pretty handy with a rotary cutter, but not to that stage yet...I plan to buy my 4 yr old a sewing machine on her next birthday...we'll see how it goes...right now I'm not seeing an interest on her part other than her asking "are you done with my dress yet?" Great job!!!

P.S. I will do all the cutting for her!!

Gravatar What a fantastic job your daughter did on her apron! My mom taught me to sew when I was 13. I would consider myself a adv. beginner. I never thought much about sewing...I never took to it. However, my sewing came in handy when I was in college and was able to make simple things to wear. Keep up the great work!!

Gravatar Wow, what I would give to have a mother to guide me with learning to sew! I love my mother to death but it's unfortunate that I'm more interested in sewing than stocks & bonds!
