Gravatar View E. No ruffle. Classic. Love the fabric, btw.

Gravatar girl, you are too fly!

some of these pattern companies ought to commission you to advertise their stuff because [no disrespect] the models they are working with fall more than a little short...

Gravatar I also like E

Gravatar I kinda like view C with no ruffle, but that's me. f course, I like long sleeves.

Gravatar I like the sweetheart necklines of B & C better on you Erica. If it's cold enough in Alabama for the long sleeves, then C.
And no ruffle, too busy.

Gravatar Me too. I like pattern E. Simple yet elegant.

Gravatar Definitely E. I like the straight neckline and the short sleeves.

Gravatar I'm voting for E too, no ruffle. That's what makes this dress look so sharp to me -- the clean unfussiness. But if you think you'd get much more wear out of something with sleeves, then the long-sleeved version.

Gravatar I vote for View B with the pleated skirt. Love the sleeves, love the neckline, love the skirt. Should be very flattering fit

Gravatar I love E, it's clean and sharp and is going to look SO GOOD in that fabulous fabric.

I'm so in awe.

Gravatar In the menswear plaid, I too like view E; perhaps with 3/4 sleeves if you make longer sleeves. In a different fabric, I can see you in view B, with skirt.

Gravatar Definitely View E - no ruffle. The ruffle would get lost in the glen plaid anyway, although not in a solid. Plus, there is so much going on with those sleeves, you don't want the hem to compete with them. In Alabama, you'll get more wear out of the short sleeves - you can always put on a throw, jacket or sweater even in winter.

Gravatar i vote for view B with pleated skirt ! make something fussy/feminine with a masculine fabric.

Gravatar Ah, this is the kind of dilemma everyone should have.

I'm not a big fan of the sweetheart neckline, so B and C are out. The long-sleeved version strikes me as slightly dowdy, so no D, either. The pleated bottom doesn't seem as timeless as the straight version, so I'm poo-pooing that option, too.

Version E? Now we're talking!

Gravatar I like view C with the addition of the little tucked thingy at the top of the sleeve for shoulder height and hip balance. I think the sweetheart neckline is so flattering, especially if you have a nice bustline. I can just imagine the little pleats at the hem swishing when one walks....in the glen plaid, restrained and sexy at the same time. I think Roland Mouret did a version in long sleeves with the pleated bit at the top. Or perhaps the long sleeves are a bit warm for your part of the country. Will you line it? Are you concerned about plaid matching? I'm dying to see how this turns out since you do such nice work!

Gravatar I like E. It's classic and I think the pleated shirt would be a little too much. The short sleeves make it a fun outfit. The sleeves would make it formal/business-y looking. But that's just my opinion.

Gravatar I like view C without the pleated bottom. It's perfect for the upcoming fall and winter seasons and the sweetheart neckline is very flattering.

Gravatar Thanks you guys for all of your help. I think I'm going to go with View E. My DH pointed out the fact that if I did the short sleeves, I can wear it now through Spring. He said that the pleated bottom looked too busy for the plaid. I still will probably make one or two more of these dresses in solids. Again, thanks for your help!

Gravatar My votes for C (with no ruffles). Good luck!

Gravatar B. absolutely B.
clear shapes, no fuzz. classical.
perfect for this fabric and i think it will loock absolutely adorable on you.

donīt sew so fast - i canīt keep track with what youīre doing

Gravatar For some reason I like C. Long sleeves seem to go with the fabric, and you'll probably be wearing this dress in the fall anyway.

Gravatar So E it is! I'm most jealous of you...I do want to make this dress, but haven't gotten myself together on it yet.

Oh, and next time I'm in Alabama we'll go thrifting.

Gravatar View E is classic. I am really excited that you're making this!

Gravatar I am so in lust with this pattern - serously jealous that you are making it (can't find it here as yet...). I would also go for E, although I think I'd simplify the sleeve head, and the fabric you found is perfect! Just wondering how it would look like on someone with not such a defined waist (i.e. me).

Gravatar I see you sew a lot. What machine do you have? I am looking for machine recommendations, preferably less than $500. I haven't sewn in a long time, but would like to get back into itl. What would you suggest for someone just starting out? Please email me.
