What a funny thing to say - it immediately reminded me of this great event in the centre of Australia bringing Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people together.

this is an awesome idea, I fully support you guys and hope that this is the start of something great. I think the public seeing black women knitting isn't just to crush stereotypes of knitting but to show that we are supporting Knitting as an artform,in regards of it being fresh, youthful and trendy
Last week I started to knit during my lunch breaks in public, its like my personal aid to the cause, lol
good luck

Your blog is great. You have a great sense of style.
What an ignorant comment....what a small world that woman must live in. When are people going to get that the color of our skin doesn't matter?
I was recently asked what nationality I am. I was born here, my parents were born here too, so I just say "american".
Good luck with your group.

ugh. some people can be so blank sometimes. I am thankful that my son does not notice race or color among his friends. Now maybe this "white girl" should get off her butt and learn how to knit!

I've heard similar things about quilters. I usually just give them a blank stare until they die of embarassment.

You could have a lot of laughs with (ok, at) a person that out of touch with reality!

People do say the dumbest things. I was knitting on an airplane the other day and the man sitting next to me who appeared to be about my age (I'm 44) said, "Aren't you a little young to be knitting?" I mean.... how does one respond to that?

My best friend is quite the knitter. I'll be passing this info on to her. And why stop at a Yahoogroup? Get a group blog going!

I've had strange looks myself when knitting in public. Lately the doctor's office was the object of stares. I must say that I have a hard time finding other Black women who knit in my vacinity. Every time I go to a knitting group or stop by a Panera on yarn boutique, I'm the only one. Kudo's to you for starting this group. I'm in!!!

I'd love to learn to knit...but I don't think I could sit still long enough.
I love seeing the things you do and am always quite envious of your skillz. I can't WAIT to see what yall put together! Let me know if there is anything I can do. (Which would be regulated to say...erra...picking a yarn color. LOL!)

Thank you for starting this! I had considered a Knitters of Color webring, and got a ton of flack for it. It is nice to have something *else* in common with my knitter friends.

As someone who lives in Australia I find this comment completely bizarre! I didn't realise people like that still existed!!!!
