Erica, The Butterick coat is nice but before you jump, check out Burda's Couture Facile pattern that we've had over here in Europe for some weeks now--it should be Burda Easy Sewing or something like that in your American edition--and I love the short jacket version with the flounce as well as the long coat with the fur cuffs. I just made my first Burda skirt, a tulip job, after years of resistance to the tracing b.s. I've been a Vogue person since 1964, but the cost of patterns shipped to Europe has slowed down my sewing frenzy by 80 %. So I'm thinking I'll look at the Burda stuff more often. In this case, I like their take on this coat and I think I prefer it to the strange Michael Kors pregnant lady pleat in the front of the houndstooth on the runway.

Inkstain,
I don't know if this magazine in any form is available in the States... if so, I'm sure my Burda Yahoo Group would have mentioned it. The coat that you recommended is indeed lovely with the origami pleating on the cuffs and at the hem, but I don't particularly care for the collar. Not exactly the high collar I had envisioned. But thanks for taking the time to suggest it.

Very cute!!! Where did you find the houndstooth fabric? The only one I "must" make right now is the 5146. I will be making the same, pants, tunic and tank. I love it!

I'm thinking of that Butterick coat for myself as well (purple). I think it's good for my pear shape. First, I promised DD a coat though.
