Erica,
That suit is GORGEOUS!!! You look AMAZING in it. I actually have this pattern and was happy to see you were working on it. I'm intimidated now in attempting to take a stab at it after reading your review. I'm not brand new to sewing, but I'm not advanced either (some of the terms/techniques you used, I was like UH! ut oh). I will take a stab though...after I make a few other things to build up my confidence. AGAIN, absolutely GORGEOUS.

Erica,
That is awsome, as always!!!
Did you have wider than 20" (I think that's the widest I could find knit in) fusible? And do you have a "press" to do the fusing? I started a sheath that I was interfacing the whole thing and is it EVER TIME-CONSUMING with an iron!!!

I love your blog and most of your garments are so well done and really inspiring.
And I do like the suit. It is a great color and fabric on you. And you did a great effort constructing it.
But here's the thing that generally bothers me about blog comments: Everybody puts in their praising two cents (which is good!), and some even remark that, in this case, this suit is a perfect fit. Now, while I really, really like the finished garment, it is just not a *perfect* fit, ladies:
- the bust isn't where it's supposed to be, it's too big around and under the bust, too much fabric
- the sleeves are twisted diagonally, probably because of problems with the sleeve cap fit
- the thighs are pulling in front and back, depending on stance. My guess is that the pants are too tight in the butt and thigh area
- the pant creases are not straight and they are not where they are supposed to be, which is in the front of the leg
- the set in sleeves are puckered badly in the back
- the jacket is pulling horizontally in the upper back, probably too tight, probably because of broad back
Now, my point here is really not to put down your work (or anyone else's). I still think you did a great job. But all the praise and the assurances of *perfect fit* are just not honest. And it is not just on this blog but on so many others as well. And I believe it does not help us to improve ourselves in our skills. Wouldn't it be better if we made friendly suggestions and constructive criticism on how to better the fit?
That's just my opinion. And I sincerely apologize if I am stepping on anybody's toes.

Sandy,
I appreciate any constructive criticism. But, the first "law" of blogging and being a commenter on someone's blog is not to actually "blog" in their comments. That's rude! My blog is a representation of me and kind of like my family room. Even though it is an "open invitation" here, do you think it is appropriate to enter someone's house and proceed to rant???? That shows your lack of decorum and "home training". Until you find your "manners", please consider yourself uninvited.
P.S. Another thing... since you didn't list an email address and you're practically commenting anonymously, I find that very cowardice. Atleast be woman enough to own your comment.

WHO THE HELL IS SANDY? AND WHERE IN THE HELL DID THAT HEFFA COME FROM?
The thing about people with absolutely NO damn class is that they can show up anywhere at any damn time. How dare you fix your damn fingers on the keyboard and say such to someone??? Where in the hell were you raised? IN A DAMN TREE TRUNK WITH SQUIRRELS?
A perfect fit is perfect in the eyes of the person who it is FITTING. Erica is EXTREMELY skilled and when she makes a style decision there is a reason behind it and you have to know that an opinion coming from someone without a blog or with pictures is worth AB-SO-LUTELY NOTHING WITH YOUR STOOPIT AZZ!
I'd go so far as to say you probably LOOK like the OBVIOUSLY unhappy and BEASTLY person your comment suggests you are!
I HATE, HATE, HATE negative azz Nancy's who sit on what they THINK is a high horse when in FACT it's from the gotdamn TOILET!
Take that ish elsewhere and sit your ugly sounding and prolly LOOKING azz down somewhere hell. Erica does NOT need to take the time to answer anything your ignorant azz has to say and I hope she has banned you and put you in your dumb azz place.
AS.IF!
Folks think too gotdamn highly of their opinions on these here innernets. You life prolly SUCKS so you wanna go out and try and dish ish onto other people...well playa...don't bother. Erica knows her ish is TIGHT and so do the rest of her commenters. When you get a blog we'll come on over and visit you and TRUST...WE'LL BE OH-SO-HONEST!
AS IF....
Did this ho REALLY say MOST of Erica's things????? HEFFA PLEASE! TAKE YOUR IGNORANT AZZ ON SOMEWHERE! STOOPIT PEOPLE EAT CHEAP CHEESE!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! GO SIT YOUR UGLY AZZ DOWN SOMEWHERE! STOOPIT #!$#$^@*^$

One question that I forgot to ask on my previous comment: How did you decide the size of the jacket. When I attempt to make jackets, the underarm always hangs too low. Maybe since Montana is fitted that won't happen to me?

Erica, this suit is stunning on you. I love the tab details. I've never made Claude Montana before, but I think I will find a pattern and try. This really is a lovely style for you and your work is meticulous, as always. You have a great eye for choosing the right fabric for the right style and I especially like your lining.
Do you have a machine to do your own keyhole buttonholes, or do you have someone else do them? I'd love to have a machine that does them.
You've given me some great inspiration for a jacket I'm working on at present. Thank you!

Wow, Erica! You sew like a dream and have a backbone to boot! (I never heard of a "Sandy" and I stalk a lot of sewing blogs. I would like to see her work like a lot of your fans). That suit is great on you. Fit is a personal thing I believe although I am an advanced beginner in the sewing world. I do know enough to be aware of the sewing challenges in that suit. I cut out the pattern pieces, looked at what I need to sew this summer, and put the pattern away. Now that I've seen yours, I will do that pattern - it may be Fall but you did inspire me.

It's a shame that people feel they have to rant about things. I am not saying they are wrong or right, but it falls into that "if you don't have anything good to say..." and that is what I prescribe to when leaving comments. Needless to say, this is my second comment on this post so yes it is that damn good!
Just wanted to tell you that I saw Ellen Page rocking that style too.

@ Peacock Chic, thanks for coming back again. ROFL I totally agree and delivery is everything.
@ Rose, give it a shot! I would love to see other's interpretation.
@ Tany, YOU have got to make this! I can see you in this style!
@ Ang, Girl go sign up for a class at Hancock!
@ Carol Trendall, nope, no separate buttonhole machine. I would love to have one though. My little machine just makes pretty decent buttonholes IMO.
@ Rachel, I didn't have underarm problems. I did have them with Vogue 7975, The Chanel style jacket, so I know what you mean.
Thanks LADIES!

Sandy's words are the same ones I read within the past couple of days. I can't remember if it was SG or PR. I would guess PR is where I read the post.

Wow, I didn't expect this, this morning. Ladies, first let me say, let's be ladies. Secondly, I think that it's hard to truly understand someone's intentions or comments on blogs, emails, etc... as compared to speaking with them to hear tones etc... I'm not taking "sides" but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I didn't take "Sandy's" comments to be demeaning. On one hand, I understand her point about providing constructive criticism to make each other better, Lord knows, I value it on my work, but I think it would have been more appropriate of Sandy to provide it, if it were asked for. I understand what she is trying to say,( I don't agree with her) but it comes across as rude the way she goes about it in a list form. Secondly, I am inspired by you Erica, and think this suit is truly chic! I love your fabric and color choices and the blouse truly suit the style of the suit. It looks fabulous on you! The construction is gorgeous as always. Finally, I find it ironic how SIP can come on talking about class and then proceed to rant and insult sounding exactly how you are calling the poster you are upset with. We can all show our n*$#erish side, but is that really classy, tasteful, educated, or mature, or does it just play in to people's expectations of us and then make them laugh at us. SIP, I live near DC too, but I don't act like I'm from SE, stop playing up to people's stereotypes. Erica, I think you handled yourself very tastefully. Keep rocking girlfriend!

@ Kim Brown,
Sandy, made her NEGATIVE intentions well known in an email she sent to me after I replied to her here.
SIP is my VERY CLOSE friend. She is a passionate person and a very good friend. The idea that someone would do something she felt hurt or offended someone close to her cause her to come straight out of a bag. Trust, friends like SIP are who you want to have in your corner!

@Kim Brown: I don't care where you're from. You could be in SE, in PG county...WHEREVER. North side, South side..WHATEVER.
If you don't have anything nice to say...then don't say anything and you darn sure don't need to act surprised that when you DO say something YOU GET YOUR HAT HANDED TO YOU.
And if you don't understand that...it's not like I care anyway. Who the hell is US? I don't buy into that and never will. TRUST. You're not in my US.
