That first pic - it looks like the orange scarf is a "normal" size and the model is a tiny figurine. Wild...

ugh, knitting on those huge needles kills my hands. I love the barbie effect that it has on the models though - especially pronounced in the middle photo.

OooOoOo...I get scared of the chunky yarn. I love a quick knit, but I get afraid of adding too much bulk to my frame.

Yeah - I agree with the aching hands comment - I actually knit more slowly with big needles because they're so blunt and I end up splitting the yarn every time I make a stitch. Much prefer smaller gauge...If I knit something with chunky yarn, I balance it by having it be cropped, not oversized...I'd be lost inside that last sweater!

I love Wenlan Chia (Twinkle) stuff, but at 5'2", I never make any sweaters with over a dk weight yarn - her stuff just overwhelms me.

The chunky knits are hot. They'd come in handy this week with the daggone play summer that we're having right now.

I love the cardy too, but unless you are rather svelt, I find they are too bulky.

Meg,
Your comment came across very backhanded. Some of us are very comfortable in the skin that we are in. Sorry hon, even though my curvaceous frame may not be "svelte", I can still rock a chunky knit! You'll find no BODY DYSMORPHIC DISORDER over here.

I was in no way referring to you wearing it Erica. I love it too! I just find with my generous ah.. bust, these big chunky knits do me no service. I am in envy of those who wear them and get away with it...completely comfy in my skin too, I just know what I can wear and what I can't, neutral attitude from me here...If you look fab in it, more power to you!

No hard feelings Meg... statements can be misconstrued in print. Look forward to hearing more from you!
Thanks a lot Elin for the link!

I gotta say I knit FAST with big needles and love them... big crochet hooks too. Making chunky things for kids is my favorite, guess it goes with my difficulty in delaying gratification! Anyway, it's exciting to see them in fall fashion.

Folks, be careful. I tried the scarf on (at work), and it weighs a TON. Remember, all the model has to do is pose. The dress is even heavier!
But if y'all insist. Use circulars to knit flat pieces where the bulk will lay in your lap, and not kill your wrists; wearing wristbands will also help fatigue.
Knit slowly, and the yarn won't split; after all, it IS a quick knit, right?
And MAKE SURE to add ribbon or seam binding to the shoulder seams! Gravity will PULL your sweater coat down from your shoulders; sagging, is not a good look.
