This is the first I've heard of it, and when I saw the title I was expecting to see patterns from the actual show.
Uli's tie-dye dress from the "final four" episode, Michael's cocktail dress from the "black and white" episode. Kara Saun's wedding creation maybe?
This was just bogus.
Anyway I can't wait till Wednesday!

What? Where did you find these patterns? They're not on the simplicity website... I agree, I LOVE Project Runway but I'm not crazy about these patterns. They're OK, but not what I would have expected.

Looking at those, I have such a feeling of déjà vu!

Thank goodness for Vogue and Hot Patterns!
(I do like the Simplicity/New Look patterns, and use them a whole lot, but when it comes to being fashion forward, I prefer Vogue and HP. Apparently, it'll stay that way!)

Haha!! Well it is "simple" after all! :op
They are definitely not trying hard enough!! LOL
But I do like the blue and brown dress in #S3529 and of course the bell sleeve jacket in #S3538. I am a sucker for those!!

ugh. Like you said, you would think they would have chosen some memorable looks from the show. Instead, it looks like they just looked at EVERY garment made in all 3 seasons, found the few that looked sort of like patterns they already had (regardless of which designer made them or how far along in the competition they were), and then republished those patters with the Project Runway stamp.

I was so looking forward to the PR patterns being released and I'm so disappointed. They're not terrible, but when I first heard about them I was expecting modified, more (wearable) copies of some of the outfits from the show - these look like Simplicity's Design Studio patterns repackaged with a PR logo.

So, the whole point is that you should be able to mix and match elements to create your own look. At least that's what the Simplicity woman from Lori's podcast said. So no, they aren't special and aren't supposed to be. It's just supposed to make you feel like a designer. Not the best marketing move IMHO.

Most reality shows have a clip show of funny moments (like on ANTM where one of the girls flushed a weave down the toilet or on American Idol where the really really really bad delusional singers are showcased), and I suspect that these patterns were inspired by that yet-to-be-show "outtakes" episode of PR.

I usually won't add a "me too" comment, but if anyone happens to contact Simplicity please add my dismay. I totally agree. The 'designs' look slapped together and don't deserve the PR name. Project Runway has a great opportunity to inspire new (and old!) home sewers, but they really dropped the ball on this one.
BTW, big fan of your blog. I use it as a gentle incentive to get back into sewing! Thanks!!

I'm commenting twice because I'm still bitter. It just could have been sooooo much better! Why not have each season's designers submit a design? Raise the bar! Look at Patrones and BWOF. They have more complicated patterns that move you forward and are trendy too. Grrrr. This is just a rehash of the 'Six Made Easy' line. Ok. I think I'm off my rant now.

How disappointing! If this looks like ANYTHING that was on the show, it would have been the contestants that got auf'ed for being too boring. I'm not seeing how these are any different than patterns that have already been in the Simplicity line either. If PR wanted to make a sewing pattern line, I'd agree with whoever said they should have gone to Burda-- they'd know how to make it work!
Hmm... maybe that should be an upcoming challenge on PR. "Use this sewing pattern based on our show, but in a way that doesn't suck."

I was at Joann's yesterday and happened across the new catalogs and was really, really underwhelmed by the Project Runway offerings. Considering how excited the folks at Simplicity were over these, I had really expected more ingenuity. It seems that the only *new* part is the inclusion of an additional piece of paper to the instructions that gives you a silhouette and pattern pieces to work with and get creative, much like paper dolls. I literally said "huh?" *This* got all that hype?? It's like Project Runway for 10 year olds.

I COMPLETELY agree, and I don't even watch PR! Flipping through their catalog yesterday, I found 2-3 patterns that looked like exact replicas of some of these.

I was at JoAnn's yesterday and they were having a $1.99 sale on Simplicity patterns. When I looked at the book and saw these patterns, I admit I was truly disappointed. Many are not my style and some were just duplications of the same pattern elsewhere in the book.
I wanted to see the pattern and relate it to the designer. Just doesn't work for me and from reading many of the comments above, not for most of us.

After reading everyone's comments what else can I say. Thank goodness the show has a lot more to offer. I hope someone at Simplicity get hold of these comment and realize that sewers are looking for patterns that will take us to next step in our sewing adventure. To showcase the upcoming designers such as Michael Knight, Uli and Laura Bennet and to market such mediocre pattern is an insult to sewers sense of style

Hey Erica
I have to agree with you about some of the designs from the show,so of the designs suck.
I started watching the show because I was hired to create a website for zulema griffin one of the contestants from the show. www.zulemagriffin.com
p.s I can't be held accountable for the new design after I created the website a larger design firm took over the project and the altered my original design

Agreed! Part of the problem is the photo styling. It doesn't capture the look and feel of the show at all. The patterns are workable (even if they are not inspirational), but they missed the boat on marketing them, in my opinion. A small shot of the silhouette behind the PR logo, then a side shot of a strutting model and then a big, full frontal shot to show the pattern would have captured the spirit of the show and made these patterns seem more fashion-forward.

o.k. based on all this discussion I HAD to go and look at the patterns up close and personal to see what made these Project runway patterns.
They added a sketch page to the directions call "croquis" here are similar models: http://www.alleycatscratch.com/f...ion/
Figures.htm
they also gave you the elements to trace to get you started on your design work and some instructions on how to do it.
Looking at the cover - you can not tell that this is inside or why they suggested these patterns for basic design work.
I picked up simplicity 3530 to try to make a baby doll like shirt for my 5' 5" teen daughter. We'll see how it goes!

Michelle,
This concept is not new to me. When a pattern offers multiple views, I do this anyway... just like the McCall's trench coat I'm working on now. And croquis are for people that don't know what works for their body. This would be great for rank beginners though.
