Girl I'm still tryna get my winter stuff together and you already on spring. LOL. I don't sew but seeing all the beautiful pieces you put together is making me wish I did.

I usually get my inspiration from magazines and what I see people wearing on the street. Sometime I have design in my head that I just have to put on paper and look to find patterns that come close to idea.

Oh! I love both jackets - short and slim. I really love the whole outfit in picture #2 - the colors and styles are really great - the bright citrus color really pops and makes a statement.

Very nice picks! Most of my inspiration comes from my various magazines! I already have my file going for spring, but nothing is set in stone yet lol.

I really like to look at Spegel's Catalog for inspiration and also Newport News. I know that these aren't considered very high ended, but I really like the styles they have.

Funny you should ask that. My inspiration (when I sew for myself, not a client) comes from everything BUT clothing... mostly sculpture, art, interior design, scenery, theater, textures, fabrics or some sort of philospohical notion. Never thought about it too much, but I am almost never inspired by actual fashion garments.

I am still sewing and planning winter! Anyway, several people have been working on that AK jacket and reported some fit problems you might want to be aware of.

My inspiration comes from people like you! I love your creations. Truly awesome. Now, I have a question: Are you going to do a FBA on Vogue 8134? If so, how?

@ Nancy K,
Thanks for the heads up on the fit. I would definitely make a muslin before cutting into lambskin!
@ Karen K,
I have no idea if a FBA will be needed since I don't have the pattern. If I do, you guys will be the first to know!

Well, I take my inspiration from just about everything: magazines, fashion sites, blogs, you name it! Your blog is one of my favorites for craving inspiration because of your extreme sense of fashion and good taste!

Great picks, as usual!
I was in Joanns yesterday and saw some gorgeous color very click type fabric under their Halloween costume section--greatly reduced, of course. No give in the fabric at all but I'm thinking maybe for the trench coat...what is the souce of your fabric?

Lately I've been getting my inspiration from Anthropologie. A lot of their clothes are just basics that have been embellished, so it's pretty easy to knock off!

Great selections. I haven't thought about spring. I'm still trying to sew fall/winter clothing. I get my inspiration from many sources: magazines, online stores, catalogs, stores, TV (movies from 30's, 40's, & 50's; VH1, awards shows, etc.), sewing/style blogs, people.

I love your blog- trying to get some more ideas from you but I'm not quite as stylish as you...anyway, you're a big inspiration. Other than that I try to make stuff I can handle. *grin* And since I'm still working on last summer's clothing, it's a good thing I'm not super stylish!

I agree with the above who say...YOU. I found your blog when I was knitting and you have inspired me to get fabric, patterns and commence sewing again. Stocked up on patterns this weekend at Hancocks and finished a simple loose fit jacket as a warm up project.

Yeah, you can add me to the list of people still working on their winter sewing. Actually, my current sewing project is something I got to make LAST winter. :P Great jacket picks though-- I especially like the orange one!
I tend to get a lot of my inspiration from tv and movies, to be honest-- I'm a total fantasy/sci-fi geek, and I absolutely love trying to translate elements of what I see in those to stuff I can actually wear. I also draw a lot of inspiration from people's blogs and from a few RTW places (the biggest one being Anthropologie.)

I have been eyeing that AK pattern, too - I have the ultrasuede for it even. But the fit on the model has made me hesitate buying it. First of all, it looks too short. And there looks to be no room for a bust. But I love the lines in the back!
I like to go to Nordstroms or Neimans and take pictures of high end fashions in the change room with my camera phone. Helpful to see 'the innards'. I feel like a spy - lol!
Oh and I second Spiegel catalogue - it may not be high end but they have some nice designs and their tops are nice and LONG!

One of the things I admire most about your sewing is the way you find patterns that are similar to RTW. It must be a special "knock-off" gene that you have!

I love the designs of Akris! There was an exposition of his works in St.Gallen (Switzerland) some time ago and I have never seen so beautifully tailored and designed garments before - I was full of admiration. So I'm looking forward to your version of the jackets.
