Germans have this problem at honestly taking words at their face value.
There is no such thing as "war on terrorism", there is war on specific strands of Islam, the theocratic ones. But telling people that their religion that they have always believed into is evil and stupid is the last thing that is wise to say when you want to get people to try liberty and democracy.
If it was about whacking Muslims hard, there would be no problem calling spade a spade. But that is not what the game is about.
