Anyway, was this really a surprise? In the group phase of the 1998 World Cup, Zidane stomped (not stepped, STOMPED) on a Saudi player in France's second game.
I don't think he stomped half as hard as people said he did. I saw it and it looked yellow-card-worthy, not red. This one obviously was an appropriate red card, but Materazzi is a goon...I bet he said something racist (in addition to twisting Zidane's nipple?!?).
I hope he not retire and will come back better than ever.
