Oh, OK. On the TV news report I heard they didn't say "supreme." They just said "what is the law of the land?"
So, "what is the supreme law of the land?"

U.S. Constitution, Article VI, second clause:
This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.
IANA Constitutional scholar, but here the text itself clearly mocks the castration anxieties of RWers who see international treaties as infringements of our sovereignty. Treaties and their obligations are rather expressions of that sovereignty, just like the Constitution itself: "We the people..."

Hmmm...In addition to giving the question as "what is the law of the land?" the TV news report I saw also gave the answer as "The Constitution." I assume that if you give the answer "the Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States" your answer would not be marked wrong....

I tutor an Iranian man in English, and he became a citizen two summers ago. I helped him study for the test... which is to say that he helped ME study for the test. I probably learned as much as he did. :-P
