Gravatar Sorry to hear your class is sucking.

I had a really apathetic and defiant class last spring, but the good thing about apathetic college students is they stop coming to class eventually, and defiance isn't nearly as fun when no one's around to watch. At the end of the semester, there were 24 on my roster and only 13 turned in portfolios. I don't know what I would have done if those 9 students kept coming to class. Good luck!

Gravatar There might be some students in my college classes who look bored or absent but the majority of them is truly engaged in learning. There are times when, after 6 hours of school, at 1:15 p.m. a few of them still ask for clarifications.

I am sure that better times will come for you. Best wishes!

Gravatar I teach a wide variety of classes at my community college, and I do teach a lot of developmental writing. I know what it is like to have students who don't value a specific skill. However, like Sara, I find that my students at the college level tend to drift away from the classroom. Sometimes, these students come back -- after flunking out which affects their financial aid, etc., and they are sorry for their actions. I know that it is hard, but keep focused on the ones who do care.
