When Cronkite signed off in 1981, it was the end of an era. The nightly news has never been the same since. CNN had only been on air for a year and no one had a concept of 24 hour news coverage. Simpler times that I sometimes miss.

I also will miss him on New Years Day as he hosted the New Years from Vienna concert on PBS each year (except 2009, when he was replaced by Julie Andrews...and then I knew his time was short because he loved being a part of that so much. So now even the promise of a new year is not quite a promising.....
