Clark, read the first of your suggested reading. I'm not familiar with Prop 75, being from NY. So I can't speak to that situation with any reasonable inteligence.
I can understand your comments on retaliation. As a union member I would be lying if I said it didn't happen, and in a much smaller way have been a victim of this myself.
What happened to you was criminal, that's for sure.
But I beleive that unions still have a place in our society and are a necesary "evil" in many cases.
You mention the heroin addicts working for GM again, in more detail. There are scum in any community or group. You yourself spoke out about problems in your community and were wronged for your efforts. But to put it simply, for every bad cop, how many good ones were there? Probably many more. I put to you this, for every heroin addicted piece of trash in that plant, I'm sure there were 25 good men doing the best job possible.
There is abuse in any system, and from what I've read recently about the UAW, they seem to be uniquely out of step with reality. I will post on my blog soon about this in an effort to be fair and balance. But would you do the same? Can you not find anything posative to say about union labor in the US?
You're obviously more traveled and arguably more in inteligent than I am, but I see your writing as heavily influenced by frustration and resentment from your own experience. I don't see any balance here. But it's your blog, and your opinion, and that's what life is all about.
