Gravatar They came to break bread with Johnny ?

I don't think so.

.

Gravatar ...One of the visitors — who shall remain unnamed — went further, suggesting that some human-rights commissions had become dumping grounds for political hacks without the skills to make it in truly merit-based jobs.

I can feel the love for Barbie, can't you?

Gravatar Totally off-topic: back in January, I sent a quite small donation to Mr. Levant in support of his fight against the CHRC. I just received an informative and graceful thank-you note, with profuse apologies for the delay.

Money well spent. Please keep it up, Mr. Levant. We gotcher back.

Gravatar What a surprise!

The CJC is willing to reform the system so the AG must sign off on any Sec 13 complaints.

Given that the CJC, B'Nai Brith, etc have spent the last 30 years sponsoring seminars "educating" the police and law makers on "Hate Crimes", it's hardly a surprise they would take this position. If such a maneuver were undertaken, then only the "vile hate mongers", as Mr. Kay so succinctly puts it, would be prosecuted.

Tell me, Mr. Kay, what is the unique feature that all of the "vile hate mongers" share? If you replied, "annoying Jews", you would be correct. Because it seems to me the only cases you approve of for prosecution, and indeed, the only cases that have actually been prosecuted in Canada, from John Taylor to Jim Keegstra to Malcolm Ross to Ernst Zundel to David Ahenekew to Bill Noble to Sentena Rees to the upcoming Terry Tremaine Sec 319 all share the same attribute; they offended Jews.

I hate to break it to you, but I'm certain the Muslims feel just as righteous in their belief that they are only opposing "vile hate mongerers".

How is it Free Speech if only one group is off limits, and only ony group is permitted to use these laws? And if that is not reasonable, then why should such laws exist?

Gravatar My my my, Ezra if I were you I'd be really careful about extrapalating who said what where. Mr. Kay is clearly not quoting anyone but seems more to have gleaned a conversation that he writes about.

Ahhh but you Ezra with your bizarre fetish for Mr. Farber (personally I think you are jealous of his success and the esteem with which he is held in the jewish community)immediatley assumes he made all these comments.

Ezra you do remember what they say about he who assumes? You wear it well.

Gravatar Jonathan Kay here with a few caveats. First, as "Mordecai" mentioned in a previous comment, the bit about "political hacks" being sent to HRC "dumping grounds" was my language, and I was describing the general tenor of a lengthy meeting that went over an hour. I don't want my colourful words to be put in the CJC's mouth.

Also -- with all due respect to Ezra -- I don't think it's fair for anyone to assign this or that comment or viewpoint to any one person at the meeting -- given that I made an effort to report this on a no-names basis. The CJC delegation was large, and included not only executive officers but also advisors. And, as with any large group, they didn't agree on everything.

Moreover, contrary to the suggestion in Ezra's post, our guests did not focus with any pecularity on the federal HRC -- or any other HRC -- in making comments about the quality of personnel. The discussion was in broad generalities in this regard.

I should also mention, by the way, that taking note of the mixed quality of employees at human rights commissions is hardly controversial. Ezra himself broke the astonishing news of one HRC hiring a guy who'd been kicked off a police force for ... what was it? ... dating a crook or something. Even strident critics of the CJC shouldn't expect its officers and advisors to be blind to this sort of thing.

Gravatar It was a police-gal who dated a crook, and then was tossed from the force, Jonathan.

And thank you for being a fair and balanced person in publishing my comments, as was Ezra. It is appreciated.

It would be even more appreciated if you responded to such opposing comments.

Gravatar Okay Ezra, it's time to fess up. Mordechai is right, you have Bernie Envy!

And all this time I thought your battle was for freedom of speech.

Gravatar Mordechai wrote:

Verb : assume - accept without verification or proof; anticipate, expect - regard something as probable or likely...

Gravatar The hrc issue in canada is the biggest story the televised media are not covering. And I wonder why this is.Has some group of very influential, intimidating people gone to the editorial staff of those institutions and said they would not like this presented to the public ? Something seems to be wrong with this picture.

Gravatar the fact remains that these HRCs are predominately staffed by intellectual lightweights...'progressives' ....ideologues....dispensers of vigilante 'justice'...and vizmins with what appear to be axes to grind...unemployable hacks and flacks.... .oh,and social workers and counsellors of every stripe of course....

did i miss anyone ?

Gravatar Well blue girl seems to have it right, bout time. And whoa what do I see here, Jonathan Kay admonishing Ezra for being unfair? In fact Kay suggests that Ezra misrepresents his National Post blog. Welcome to the real world of Ezra Levant Mr. Kay the man who can take a banana and despite the obvious call it a flamingo insisting he is telling the truth.

Gravatar This is the CJC's third strike in recent years. Strike one: kvetching when Ontario said "yer out" to sharia courts (because it meant Rabbinic courts could no longer have civil jurisdiction). Strike two: issuing a news release criticizing the publication of Danish 'toons in order to curry favour with Muslims so all could march arm-in-arm to Queen's Park for religious school funding. That turned into a major fiasco when the Tory's Tory, who, foolishly, made that a central plank of his campaign, and was soundly trounced by an electorate that had no desire to pay for sharia schools. Strike three: the continuing support for HRCs. The CJC sees them as a security blanket and needs to complain about Nazis (a phantom menace) in order to retain its paid-up membership in the multi-culti Special Victims Unit. In reality, the HRCs are putting Jews in grave peril because they are empowering the Islamists and loony Lefties who loathe, despise and abominate Israel and Jews who support it.

The CJC is addicted to the HRCs. Time to face up to its addiction and get some treatment.

Gravatar Thank you Mr. Kay for finally (and in a very discreet but understood manner)pointing out how Ezra Levant twists facts to suit his own purposes.

Gravatar HRCs aren't the only dumping grounds for incompetent unemployable political hacks...turn over a few rocks in the Immigration service, Refugee review boards and the parole review boards, not to mention public broadcasting and media and plenty of the same type of wigglers will go scurrying for cover.

For the past 2 decades both federal and provincial governments have expanded these public sector catch basins to employ inept partisan hacks, useless axe grinders and the endless stream of academic underachievers who populate the social work and poli sci degree courses.

God knows there's no demand for their ineptitude and fanatical partisanism in the private sector employment market. The only employer of non value added careerists is the current public sector unionist dystopia.

Gravatar Good I hope they start turning on each other, the CJC and the CIC and other special interest groups have financially benifited from the HRCs long enough. It's time to cut the hogs off and send them to market. Frankly I don't give a flying fig what CJC or the CIC want, I'm sick to death of these illiberal organizations using my taxdollars to further their socialists' agendas.

The HRCs Provinical and Federal are emitting a stench of hypocrisy that is so strong it chokes me, they are a waste of my taxdollars.

Gravatar I fail to see any Bernie envy in Ezra's comments, however it seems to me Ezra has correctly identified the people and groups who wish to maintain CHRC status quo and appear to be dead set against any revision or reform despite much evidence of malfeasance in the organization.

Keep doing what you are doing Ezra. You and the other fighters are making great progress in denormalizing the thought and speech gestapo.

Gravatar Does anybody think its possible that this might be the reason no television network news program is following this story?

Gravatar As much as I'm enjoying seeing people substitute Bernie Farber's name for the word "penis", the facts still point to the HRCs - despite their noble and lofty claims of sincerity -being largely staffed by the vengeful rebuffed; in it for the pay as much as for a little payback.

Gravatar Dow I think you need a pair of glasses. Since Ezra started this blog he has found every opportunity possible to comment/slag Mr. Farber. That Mr. Farber has not taken the bait suggests that he either has not seen Ezra's blog (more than likely) or he has the good grace not to engage with childish bullies.

Gravatar Bernie-envy was a facetious comment. I'm sorry I didn't make that clear.

With all due respect to the CJC, why on earth would anybody envy an ethnocrat whose entire platform/house of cards is based on a "threat" that's around 60 years out of date?

It's not like 600,000 people are tuning into Youtube to hear Bernie Farber dazzle them by expounding on the virtues of censorship.

The CJC will have to do some serious soul-searching as their absurd views become more and more marginalized by the growth of the freedom of speech movement.

Gravatar OK J Chapel, you obviously champion Bernie Farber and therefore must support his position regarding the CHRC. However there are many others such as myself who consider Farber either a misguided fool or self serving hypocrite leading the CJC down the wrong road supporting the zealots in the CHRC.

As far as I'm concerned Ezra Levant has explained his disagreement with leadership of CJC in a respectful manner and I certainly wouldn't call Levant a childish bully. BTW I'm positive Farber or associates peruse Ezra's blog on a daily basis. After all this CHRC issue is of major importance to the CJC and Farber would be negligent in his duties as CEO if he ignored or was oblivious of his critics.

Gravatar Yes of course he was respectful...if name calling is respectful....if ad-hominem attcks is respectful..."childish bully" was pretty apt

Gravatar So, given the comments which you have published, Ezra, that are "likely to expose a person or a group of persons to hatred or contempt", could the CHRC file a complaint with itself against you, and is it even likely that the CHRC would see that as a conflict of interest?

Gravatar Wise words from another Farber.
