Qwark has only recently made it to Canada, as well. When I was a kid, I had a book about an alien who taught these kids how to make a delicious alien cake with things like butter and qwark, and I always wanted to make it but it would have been impossible unless we flew to Germany. And now I can't find the book. Sigh...

You can get close to Quark in America by buying farmers cheese. Of course, the best is to make whole milk (especially organic cream on the top milk) yogurt and then strain it in cheese cloth overnight. Easy peasy and very good. I like it mixed with a little flaxseed oil and boiled potatoes on the side. My Oma would make a whole meal of that... also a little pat of that good butter you mention a little later. Sounds weird, but very healthy and simple.

Hi Faith,
You'll find info on Quark here:
http://www.liberte.qc.ca/en/
page...d=OtherProducts
here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qua.../Quark_(cheese)
and a bunch of other places if you Google "quark". I've bought the Liberte Quark before, it is sold in most supermarkets here in Montreal.
I love the statues you saw! We saw the same statue-performance-art people when I was in Las Vegas once, they were at the Venetian Hotel and dressed like white marble statues. I couldn't believe the amount of tips they got! (But it WAS Vegas, so people will throw money at anything there).

It looks like you had a lot of fun - I'm sure it was GREAT for you to get away for a bit. :0)
I'm so impressed with the breakfast spread! And really, anywhere you can have a slice of chocolate with your morning meal is a place I can really get behind!
