Gravatar Sounds like it hit you the same way it hit me. I was up early this morning thanks to my dog. I came to the computer and began reading Ms Priest's and Ms Hull's reports. All the emotions came flying at me. By the time I came to the end of the piece, I realized I was crying.

It seems to me the guys are in a sort of prison in some third world or something. That this is happening in our country is difficult to believe. Of course having a president who would lie to the American people in order to start a war used to be difficult to believe too.

Anyone in govt. who knew about this and kept silent should go to prison, a real one.

Ms Priest was on Imus this morning and she said some of the soldiers who talked to her were afraid to allow her to print their names because they were afraid the military might seek revenge in some way, like cut their insurance or other benefits. She said she and Ms Hull will follow up on the story and report it if that should happen to any of them. God, this is unreal! These guys now have to live in fear of our military after all they have already been through.

Gravatar When I hear that there "was no plan in Iraq," I understand the assessment and have no bone to pick with it, but I always think of the one concrete, well-thought-out plan that the Bush administration did have: seizing Iraq's oil. This plan has come to light in leaked documents. Not surprisingly, it puts US oil companies in charge of Iraqi oil.

Interestingly, that's the same plan that the Bush administration has for the third largest oil reserves in the world, which are located in Iran.

Gravatar selfish bastardos,

Gravatar I wish I could say I was suprised at the Wapo report. I also wish I could say I was surpised that Greenwald would once again have defend sanity from the riechwing trolls...

Gravatar Damn. Just... damn. For once I am speechless in my outrage.

(Enjoy my speechlessness. It never lasts long!)

Gravatar Let us hope it doesn't last too long Steve.

Gravatar I actually don't find this reckles and non caring attitude of your leader suprising or unique. This has been happening elsewhere for centuries.

What I do find sort of unique is the fact that this recklesness, unlike the others, takes place in the democracy which, if working as adverticed, should be able to put the stop to it. However, the situation is such that the worst might still be ahead.

The vast majority of Americans see clearly what an unmitigated disaster this crudade for oil is and so do their representatives but still there will be hundreds, perhaps thousands of your boys and girls to be maimed or killed needlessly. This administration might consider these broken down soldiers as a normal part of conducting business, as cancelled cheques perhaps, but they should not be allowed to do so. Remember, you are a democracy not a bloody principality!

Gravatar We hear you Pekka. The politics around this are stupefying and disgusting. We need someone in power to stand up and cry bullshit but that person has shown up yet.

Gravatar An absolutely shameful development, yet just what I've come to expect.
