I've heard some of those Griffith routines too… do you remember him describing football, with "the convicts running around blowing whistles"?
Sounds like one of those road trips with a better ending than most. Thanks for sharing…

That was exactly what I was going to say, Farf - I LOVE that routine. I can't say that I've heard many others of his, but I grew up listening to that one. My mom must have had an album or something - Andy and his "big orange drink!"
Your Aunt K sounds like the perfect road trip companion, Fam - oh that we all could remember to just relax and enjoy the journey, like she did.
And I've stopped and talked to the folks on the porch like you said, and they're very nice. He's a good deal younger than she is, and spends a lot of time complaining about his work, but it's nice to stop and chat. I think of you every time I walk past them.
As always, thanks for sharing your story! Except now my back hurts in sympathy with yours.
Hey, did you ever decide on the FL trip?

Hiya FAR,
I added an mp3 of the Football one at the end of the post. I would say that it was one of the better road trips. Just to see how happy it made Fmom and Aunt K was enough for me.
Hope you and the family are doing fine.

Hiya Beth,
Yep Aunt K taught me something on that trip. Enjoy the trip instead of trying to get to a destination. It does make everything so much more enjoyable.
I'm glad you stopped by and chatted with the couple on the porch. Although it sounds like the guy might be a little bit of a downer.
I've decided against going to Orlando. My brother said he could cover transportation and lodging, but everything else would have to come from me. So I decided that money would be better spend on doctors, dentist and optometrist. Maybe in a year or two when I have everything caught up I can start planning on traveling.
Speaking of dentist, I've got a appointment in the morning to have some teeth pulled and an upper denture put in. Golly gee that's something I'm looking forward to.
Yeah sure - snarking my brains out right now.
So it's off to bed for me and I'm hoping you have a good night and week in front of you.
Take care,

Hey there FM,
That sounds like it was quite the road trip, and wow, I never knew Andy Griffith did comedy routines way back when. Of course I just remember seeing the old TV show when I was little (and hating it even then!) ... I've never had much of a tolerance for corn pone! Lest that sound harsh, I should admit that I did like "Green Acres!" go figure....

Hiya IVG,
I never have been a big fan of corn pone myself, although as a kid I did like Andy Griffith and Green Acres. I think it was up around the time that Hee Haw came on that I really started disliking it. With Green Acres I guess you could look at it that most of the characters didn't have heavy Southern accents.
Hope you and Fernymoss are doing good and take care.

FM, only you could make a trip taken while suffering with a broken vertebrae sound absolutely delightful -- made me wish I could have been right there along side you in the car (I'll skip the anniversary party though).

I sure understand about the Orlando trip. It's too bad you have to spend your $ on doctors instead of fun, though. I'm sorry I won't get to meet you this time - but there will be others!

Hi Andi,
Oh I guess I just a fun type guy. Actually the worst part of the trip was listening to (as IVG would put it) corn pone jokes. I was just really thankful that FMom or Aunt K didn't like country music. If they had then the trip would have been shear hell.

Hi again Beth,
Yep I figured it was better to spend the money on medical and be able to see than to limp blindly through Disney World.
However, I really do wish we could have had a meet up down there. As you said though there will be other times.
Well I got my new upper teeth today and now it's time to head into town (opposite direction from the one I just came from) and get my new glasses. Oh boy to be able to see again. :O)
Have a good day and take care.

Another delightful story. You really need to put them together into a book, you tell them so well. Of course, folks would have to be very self-disciplined and read only one chapter at a time. That's what is so nice about your blog, we can enjoy them whenever you write them.
Keep 'em comin'
