I don't really think he was talking about me personally, so much as the collective Rampage Experience of the people who comment on the stories. But it's my blog, so I'm feeling responsible...

"what I don't want to grow up to be like" sure, but also "Maybe I don't want to get caught saying this stupid thing because I might get rampaged".

Hmm. The reason I gravitated to the Rampage is, despite the cheap shots, I found the level of discourse here to be a nice middle ground between hardcore academic analysis and the wince-worthy chest-beating fluff I found on most of the big messageboards.

Hmm, well, Matt's seeming to do the exact same thing he criticizes (pointing at Rampage and saying he's glad he's not like us). Not meant as a cheap shot, but just as an illustration that what happens here is not exactly unique to us Rampagers.
Honestly, though, it's not like *everything* here is snark. Many posts are really pretty positive, with folks singing the praises of their favorites. And I really don't see a lot of personal insults flung here, either, unlike many of the message boards.
But I like having a spot where I can vent my frustrations over the things in my hobby that bother or perplex me. And I like the fact that so many of the other posters here are clever enough that I laugh out loud.

What are you, Catholic?
Well, you did post the "Moonbeam" thing in the first place, so okay, you're responsible for that. But if there's any one thing this blog has taught me, it's how to love...
Wait, no. Sorry. What this blog has taught me is that Teh inranets iz dumm. That TPop thread would be half as long if people could actually read.
In the end? None of it fucking matters, does it? I, for one, take great pride in my humor having directly affected AiT/PL publishing policy.

Hey Rich, you should probably know we don't look up to the V. Partially because we're secretly Irish.
Honestly most people on boards read this site with the HOPE that they'll make the Rampage!!! It's not like Graeme targets Newsarama directly or anything. If nothing else the boards I see made fun of most often start with a "B". Was the "Moonbeam" thread inappropriate? Sure. I can't really defend it because I didn't partake in it. But the reality remains, if you don't wanted something treated that way then DON'T SAY IT.

Huh. I didn't even see the announcement that FBR was ending.
Well. I have come to find this blog very entertaining. When I first got here, my opinion was much the same as the critics; it seemed a bit dumb that the blog's entire purpose was to make fun of other people. But reading it more, I realized that you guys were AWARE of how dumb it was, and were just having a bit of fun with it. So I began to see the value in that.
But I do think Graeme is being too sensitive about Brady's comments; it ain't like he's the first person that said such things about this blog. I mean, you make a blog dedicated to making fun of people, you gotta expect you're gonna get bitten back sometimes.
I dunno why Graeme is closing it, but like he says, there will no doubt be something to take its place, with many of the same entertaining and intelligent personalities.
Still, this place was fun while it lasted.
