Using that metaphor, I'd say that those that look for meaning are smudging the window.

For the most part I can say that life has no meaning to me either at this stage, but when you remember what life was like with meaning, it really hurts. What I'm saying is this is not the optimal position, maybe optimal only in a fantasy world, not in the reality we're aware of now, nevertheless it doesn't diminish the pain.
