God's Love: Don't leave home without it!

Gravatar As you probably got from the title, Laura Nyro died, back in 1997-a talented artist who left behind some beautiful music.

Gravatar "Trusting in God is well founded Hope"

Though I have no quibbles with this message, Calvinism in particular makes this statement a bit complicated.

If God does not love all in the same way (that is, He does NOT wish everyone to be saved), my hope for salvation may be in vain if I am not among His chosen elect.

I just saw a film where the parents of a sickly newborn made a deal with a member of a cult whereby the girl's soul would be forfeited to the cult at her 18th birthday if she was given health. The girl was told about this near that day, but she didn't wish it to come to pass. She instead desired to be good, to keep her own soul and wished to reject the darkness of the cult. Unfortunately, "destiny" mandated that her soul be given over to these demons.

This seems similar to the tenets of Calvinism: there's no hope for those whose destiny has been sealed. A desire for "goodness", for light, for love and for holiness shall be thwarted - damnation is certain, whatever one's desires. God saves whom He will.

Thus, I'm not sure how anyone can have any true certainty of their own salvation (let alone anyone else's) if Calvinism is true. I'm also not sure what "just" means when it is applied to God in this sense.

-- I know my posts probably annoy you, but I find these issues important and thought-provoking!

Gravatar Overthinking, James, gets you know where. The Gospel is so simple any child can understand it. Calvinism isn't some boondoggle of contrary misunderstandings, though, from the outside, nothing of Christianity can really be understood.
I'm a Christian, and don't even think in terms like Calvinism.
