God's Love: Don't leave home without it!

Gravatar I'm tired, and probably won't check in until Monday. There's juice in the fridge. No parties.

Gravatar A little late but ...

I find it annoying when some believe that America should be governed like ancient Israel. I'm referring specifically to Christian Reconstructionists who believe blasphemy and fornication should be punishable by law and that things like homosexuality should be punished with the death penalty.

Of course, this example is not the majority of Christian thought, but it's why I don't get the whole gay marriage debate and what Levitical law has to do with granting civil licenses so people can share property and legal obligations and benefits.

Gravatar Fair enough, James. Christian Reconstructionists is a new one for me-which puts me in the 'majority of Christian thought' group, I guess.
Let me put it this way-no matter what the laws say, I am going to follow my beliefs, which means that I try to live my life in communion with God. That means that I live by this precept:what He calls evil, I call evil-what He calls good, I accept as good. Sounds simple, doesn't it?
God does not change-what He calls sin in ancient Israel is sin today. It may be legal, such as your example of 'gay marriage', which is winning acceptance in this country...but it is still sin.
We Christians see the acceptance of gay marriage to be evidence that the world is moving further away from God, which is not good. But we look forward to the day when the Lord returns to set up His Millennial Kingdom.
Until that time, we Christians will continue to speak up, call sin a sin, point people towards God. As long as I have the same rights as every other American-free speech, right to worship God as I wish, right to vote-I will exercise those rights. You go ahead and do the same.

Gravatar Do you eat shellfish, Doug? How about wearing cotton/polyester blends?

Gravatar Same old, same old, Lu?
"17“Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18“For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished." Matthew 5:17-18
"35One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, 36“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38“This is the great and foremost commandment. 39“The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40“On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”" Matthew 22:35-40
" 2One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. 3The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him. 4Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

5One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. 6He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God. 7For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself; 8for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. 9For to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living." Romans 14:2-9

Gravatar I am a Christian and I get annoyed at Christians who expect Christian behavior from non-Christians. We are asking the impossible.
