God's Love: Don't leave home without it!

Gravatar Here, to show you that I'm not such an evil jerkalope, is one of my latest:

"WHAT HAS LACES AND IS SEVEN FEET TALL?"

The answer is found in the comments section for the post below this one titled "Faith is Fine, But..."

Gravatar Hi Doug. I'm the 'soul' (thanks for that) who took issue with your first post. Speak your mind all you want. It's your right, and If you offend me, I'll ignore it. No skin off anyone's nose.

But the thing is, you claim to be a Christian. And when I criticized your post labeling Obama a coward (because he's still thinking about his Afghan policy, I gather) and said that it was un-Christian of you to simply label someone a coward, your response was that you didn't care. Not that your rebuke was a form of 'Christian witness' (I'd take strong issue with that, but fine), or that you didn't care what *I* think (again, fine - why should you?) but that you didn't care that your post was un-Christian.

I say it again: if the post was not worthy of someone who tries to live their life on the example of Christ, you have an obligation to care and to ask forgiveness. If you thought your post was a Christian witness (labeling someone a coward with no explanation? really?), well, why didn't you say that, make your case?

Express away. But you seemed to *agree* that your comment was un-Christian, but think that was okay. There's the problem.

Have I apologized for speaking my mind? Sure I have. When I'm trying to express an opinion and I end up demonizing the person and not the idea or the action, yeah, I need to apologize. And I do. It's embarrassing and it feels like losing face, and so I don't always do it and sometimes I do it grudgingly, but I try. We're all sinners here.

Gravatar Thanks for speaking up, Anon. But you don't yet understand. My post was not "un-Christian". You might consider it so, but that's only your opinion of my opinion. See how this works?
If I were talking with President Obama in person, one on one, debating what he has done and who he is, I would call him a liar, a hypocrite, and a coward. I wouldn't write it here if I weren't willing to say it to his face.
Tell me, please: what you think Jesus will say to President Obama when Obama stands before Him in judgement? Call him a good and faithful servant?
Welcome him into His Kingdom?
I don't. More later.

Gravatar Nothing wrong with having an opinion. Yet, I would think that making any unsubstantiated claims against someone or making untruthful claims about them would indeed be unchristian (were you actually doing so).

I'm not sure how Obama is a coward, but the problem is that "liar" and "hypocrite" would probably apply to all politicians, and the latter to most people in general.

A hypocrite is anyone who fails to live up to their professed standards. I've fallen short. Have you? If so, we, too, are hypocrites.

I think the nature of your post made it appear that Obama is guilty of these things at a level that far surpasses any other politician (Democrat or Republican). Personally, I'm not convinced of that.

(Think of "pro-family" Republican Mark Sanford who spent taxpayer dollars to see his Argentinian mistress.)

Gravatar James, I simply stated my opinion, and am not looking for argufights on the merits or demerits of President Obama. You defi of hypocrite could use a little work.
I'm going to buy a Phillies hat tomorrow. Anyone playing against the Yankees is my favorite team.

Gravatar Anyone playing against the Yankees is my favorite team.
We really have to stop all this agreement, Doug. Actually I only half agree with this one: once the Red Sox are out of it, whoever plays the Yankees is my favorite team.

Apart from that, however, I heartily disagree with your comments (and the sun and stars resumed their accustomed courses, the dogs chased the cats out of their beds, and everyone heaved a sigh of relief that all was normal again). Remember a ways back when I took issue with your presuming to know who was saved and who wasn't, and other matters that are private between each person and God? And you said unless I had converted when you weren't looking, of course I was damned, Q.E.D. Well, I'm (still) not a Christian, but President Obama is, and yet you claim to know the state of his soul also. It seems that your sole criterion for salvation is whether a person agrees with the Gospel According To Doug.

I know you will say that President Obama isn't really a true Scotsman... er, Christian, because if he were he wouldn't be trying to put ACORN in charge of our health care, and furthermore he's really secretly a Muslim just biding his time until he can get the ruby slippers back, reveal his true powers, and strangle us all with burqas mwahahahaha. (I actually have moments of wanting to pick out a nice burqa for my 13-year-old daughter, but I digress.) Or, in other words, by his fruits you know him.

Gravatar Doug, well, perhaps it's just a simple misunderstanding. I called out your first post as un-Christain. I took your response ("I don't care, anon.") as a simple "Yeah. So what?" and I responded accordingly. That's apparently not what you intended (though, really, that's what the words you wrote mean). If you had said "who are you and why should I care what you think?" or even "you're wrong," well, that would have been clearer.

I don't doubt that you would call Obama a coward and liar and hypocrite to his face. And again, I'd call that un-Christian. Jesus taught the *love* of enemies, and that when someone slaps you on one cheek, you should offer him the other. Jesus did not fight back, and insisted that his followers not fight back either. With all due respect, I see a big gap between your behavior and that example.

What will Jesus say to Obama at the End of Days? In my heart of hearts, I don't know. I can't possibly know. I don't support (or oppose) him on that basis. I support (or oppose) him because of what he does in office.

Gravatar My, this is fun. Once again I am being lectured on Jesus. Never gets old.
I always enjoy it when someone says or writes at me, "You claim to be a Christian."
It's usually followed by a clinical dissection of something I've done or said that PROVES that I'm not a very good Christian.
"Doug, well, perhaps it's just a simple misunderstanding."

Allow me to clarify for you, Anon.
I really don't care. That's what the words I wrote mean.
I care what my God thinks of me (and He knows me much better than you do, and loves me despite my many flaws).
I care what my friends, family, co-workers and church family think of me. I want the nice cashier at the supermarket to like me. But really, when I express my opinion (on my own site!) I really don't care if someone doesn't like what I've said. I sleep just as soundly at night, still enjoy Life as fully.
Anon, I have a thick skin. If you don't believe me, read back over the five years archived on this site. In my life I've learned that it is futile to try to be a "people pleaser". There are a lot of weak people out there who need affirmation from others-I'm not one of them.
I'm not tied in knots of angst if someone doesn't like something I've done. I can't even imagine being that needy.
This is turning into more of a dissertation than I intended, but it's the weekend, and I feel good.
To Lu:
May the Phillies totally humiliate the Yankees, make them hang their heads in shame. I switched allegiance over to the Bosox when the Braves returned to mediocre baseball. I was cheering the Sox before they won it all.
Have a good weekend everyone!

Gravatar huh.

Gravatar I've been cheering the Sox on since the Johnson administration. (No, not Andrew, Lyndon. C'mon now.) Go Phillies!
