This post came from listening to the Bible on my iPod at work, going through the minor prophets, hearing that passage in Amos. A note my study Bible refers to the times when God, in Judgement, refuses to hear the pleas of the people as "the awful silence of God". The notes referenced other times when God refused to answer, including the passage where King Saul resorted to seeking out a spirit medium to contact the dead prophet Samuel in 1 Samuel chapter 28.
