God's Love: Don't leave home without it!

Just for fun, see if you can tell the good guys from the bad in these wikis:

Jos...Joseph_McCarthy
Bye the bye-if you receive all of your knowledge of that era from Hollywood movies, you might possibly not be getting the facts.
See: "The Way We Were","The Front", "The Majestic", etc.

I have no doubt there are real communists and much worse running around in our country: there are probably people with extremist leanings on both sides of the political spectrum who would cause mass destruction and harm (keep in mind that Tim McVeigh was a right-leaning radical).
However, when I hear charges of "communism" against Obama because he proposed increasing the taxes on the richest by 3% (from 36 to 39), it makes me wonder about the sanity of some people.
If Obama is a Communist, what does that make Teddy Roosevelt who stated: "The man of great wealth owes a peculiar obligation to the State, because he derives special advantages from the mere existence of government" and "I feel that we shall ultimately have to consider the adoption of some such scheme as that of a progressive tax on all fortunes" ???
Given the rhetoric being tossed about, I'd fear for Teddy's safety!

Welcome back, James. Parole? (absolutely just kidding!)
No where in the post did I call President Obama anything, so possibly, by your standard, I am sane.
I don't worry about President Obama destroying this country, because, long and short range, God is in charge.
Tell you what-just for fun, here Monday night, google 'Little Green Footballs' and see if your browser dumps. Call it a social experiment.

I love getting old. I think I've already used the "parole?" gag here before, so here is a "replacement" joke:
"My poor Uncle Harvey. He had a nervous breakdown while attempting to flip a bowling ball over on its side."
Here at home I can reach LGF just fine, but at work it was killing the browser-IE. I use Firefox 99.7% of the time.

I remember "tail-gunner Joe" as McCarthy was known. He served in the Marines in WW2 and was elected senator from Wisconsin in 1946. He had nothing to do with HUAC which was a committee in the other chamber. He was arrogant, he was a demagogue, he was boorish. he was right.
I still remember the accusatory statement by defense attorney Joseph Welch at the Army-McCarthy hearings in 1954: "Until this moment, senator, I think I never gauged your cruelty or recklessness....Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?" I also remember the See It Now episode where Edward R. Murrow looked straight up into the camera and challenged the senator to come on his show. He never did and soon became the butt of jokes and satire.
Even to this then 14-year old kid it was clear that McCarthy was done. He died, I believe, in 1957 in Bethesda Naval Hospital.
There was an excellent documentary made about these hearings. It's title is Point Of Order.

Hello Allan-the Coulter book is also good-I'll look for Point of Order. Welch was so beloved by Dems for attempting to shame McCarthy that he was given the role as judge in Otto Preminger's "Anatomy of a Murder" which I'm sure you're familiar with.
Nothing much has changed, has it? No Dem is ever bad (to the Left) and no Republican is ever good. President Obama continues to receive high praise maintaining some of the same policies President Bush was hated
for.
Only about a foot and a half of snow left. Spring is coming!Have a great day!

Here's a trivia question: If McCarthy served in the Marines why was he nicknamed 'Tail Gunner Joe', a reference to the rear-seater in a bomber?

Hi Allan-I know the answer, from Ann's book-McCarthy volunteered, joined the Marines. As an intelligence officer, he went on about a dozen bombing runs, came under fire and fired back.
Good so far, except in the Liberal mind, no Conservative is ever right, no Liberal is ever wrong. McCarthy's service wasn't "enough", just as George W. Bush's Air National Guard service wasn't enough.
I think that the "Tail Gunner" contempt
was a pun-'Heads or Tails'-if tail means back, then "Tail Gunner" was someone who shot in the back.
Weekend!

Actually, he was nicknamed 'tail gunner joe' while in the Marines. He was a gunner-observer on about a dozen missions. He was wounded, but not by enemy fire. He suffered some unspecified injury in the course of becoming a shellback (crossing the equator).
The real trivia though, is that until 1947 each service, the Army, the Navy, the Marines, all had their own air corps. Interestingly, when the Air Force came into being only the Army gave up its air corps. The Navy and Marines still operates their own air power.
