FDL!!

Congratulations to you guys! If anybody's been deserving of an award this year, it's you.

Hey, I'm one-sixth of the posters at Shakespeare's Sister! That means I actually sort of won something!

Yay, us! And YAAAAAY, FDL!!

Tom Delay DROPS OUT of 2006 Race

MSNBC - Scarborough show - Chris Matthews

heck, the best blog community is here, IMHO
BTW-Florida 35, UCLA 24

Yeah Congrats...

OMG

CNN right now: Tom Delay drops out of race for congress...

He is so getting indicted!!

Yeah!

CNN is also reporting the Tom Delay quitting story. Tom is having a conference call with the Texas delegation.
The indictments last Friday of Tom's henchpeople may have pushed the final button...

I must admit I's sad Delay has dropped out. I would have loved to have seen him lose.

Good work and congrats

Sorry if there was some comment disappearance, I accidentally posted under the wrong account and had to re-post. Several comments disappeared along with it, my mistake. And apologies.

OK, I posted on this thread, where did it go?

delay quits, the grrls of fld win a Kfx, and EoS is also a winner?

i don't know how to end a day better than that.

A well deserved honor.

Jane, you ever get that tattoo?

Kudos to FDL. You women RULE!
_

Ask and you shall be answered -- EVEN BEFORE YOU ASK!

Hail all powerful Jane!

Jane and Christy! Hip Hip Hooray! and it's so nice to see a fair election!

Congratulations! We already knew this, but now everyone see the FDL team is a force to be reckoned with.

yeah! $16.67 ...

TOM DELAY DROPS OUT OF THE RACE??!!

YEAH!!!

Talk about your chickens coming home to roost!

Oh, that smug fucker. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall when he realized he would have to bail out of the race.

YEAH!! "It's Springtime/For liberals..."

Wow, I got here just about the same time Christy did. Wish it had been sooner, for sure. Next year we will be offering congratulations for more awards.
So, so, so happy I found firedoglake.
Many thanks to you both.

As I suspected... Kobe got to the keyboard. Congrats Jane and Redd.

I just got word that there's a slot on the YKos media team for me - so I'm psyched as well - get to help with media work for such a cool event and get to meet so many friends from here - add in Koufax for the deserving and retirement for the delay - what a good evening.

Congrats, and thanks to you both (and all the commenters as well) for giving me this place!

Winning a Koufax for Plame... I guess you feel like Peter Jackson might have if he'd won for the first hobbit movie.

Congratulations -- and thanks. Lots more story to tell here; y'all are just getting started. It's nice to be along for the ride.

siun | Email | 04.03.06 - 7:33 pm

Congrats Siun!! That is so nice.

Congratulations, and well deserved, Jane and Redd!

Very cool and congratulations!

Some police spokesman was on local tv news in Gainesville urging people not to set cars on fire if Florida wins the national championship. The implication, apparently, is that it would be ok to do that if they lose.

Hooray to FDL for your much-deserved Koufax award for your Plame series!

And to all the Koufax winners, finalists, and semi-finalists -- Congrats! Voting for the Koufax awards is always one of my true "abundance of riches" moments in life (that, and my kids)!

Congrats, Jane! And Digby, he's well, so damn good! I try and fumble around and I'm still looking for my legs. I'm so glad to have found FDL, GG, Digby and the rest. WE have to fire up the base! It's a cinch that Schumer and Pelosi won't. Remember, they are analists (sic?)

Great news on two fronts; FDL winning the Koufax, and that smug bastard quitting.

The worm is turning. The chickens are coming home to roost, and boy are they pissed! We're on the cusp of great things happening. It's an honor to be here to see it.

Congratulations! Yeah.

Thanks VG - it's so cool to get to use what I do to help all of this ... just feels good. I've learned that events are more fun when you volunteer to help out - I'm sure they need more helpers for all sorts of things so if folks can, it the Ykos site and sign up.

Okay, so we have the DeLay good news, but here's a little piece that is just a big old BWAHAHAHAHA. Apparently Jack Straw had a little slip up in a recent intro:
Oops, I meant Kinda
Thanks, watertiger

Congratulations, you women rock!!!

Can we now get posters of the two of you together...I want one for each of my college student daughters.

KEEP THE FAITH, YOU MAKE MY DAY!!!

Delay out. Wow. Of course I immediately start to calculate whether it would have been better for him to stay in for a while longer. I'm never satisfied.

I am going to take 15 minutes, and be appreciative that today there is a little bit of justice. Today, a really really bad guy went down. HARD!!!!!

Congratulations to FDL and all the Hamsher and ReddHedd minions.

Congrats. I can't believe things I voted for actually won--I am in Florida, after all. That doesn't usually happen here.

Senator Wants to Tap Controversial General
By LIZ SIDOTI (Associated Press Writer)
From Associated Press
April 03, 2006 8:12 PM EDT

WASHINGTON - A Senate Republican wants an Army general who drew criticism for church speeches casting the war on terrorism in religious terms to lead the U.S. special operations command.

In a letter to Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, Sen. George Allen, R-Va., recommended Lt. Gen. William G. (Jerry) Boykin, currently the Pentagon's deputy undersecretary for intelligence, for the post at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.

Farther down in this story it says that Webb is against the appointment. Allen is claiming that Boykin has lots of support and people think he's very well qualified. They couldn't find someone who can obey the regs on speeches better?

I want one for my ceiling. ;)

This would be funny, except that it's NOT fucking funny.

Real and Surreal
Condoleezza Rice went to Baghdad to tell the Iraqis to ‘get governing.’ What she did was highlight the disconnect between the Green Zone and the rest of the country.

Congrats Jane and Redd, you thoroughly deserve the award. Congrats to all the other winners too. Much love to all of you!

siun -- that's great, you're going to have a lot of fun, the YK people are very cool.

I just agreed to be on another panel even though it's on the same day as Plame because they said Atrios was doing it. Like I'd say no?

That's me crushing.

Here's what toppled Tom:

Tony Rudy appeared in federal court in Washington, D.C. March 31, 2006, and pled guilty "in a case stemming from the corruption probe of lobbyist Jack Abramoff, bringing the scandal closer to the door of his one-time boss, Representative Tom DeLay..."

Boykin is the "Muslims worship a false God" dude. A complete fundie asshole who shows up at Falwell-ista churches in full fruit salad uniform to shill as a Bush Warrior For Jeeeezus.

I figure Delay realized, with Fitz winding up his work, it was only a matter of time before FDL would take on full-bore the blasphemy that Christ couldn't handle the "feverswamp".

Congrats Jane, Christy and the minions.

Announcement: For the next post we're going to try switching over to WordPress comments and see if it works out.

NOBODY FREAK OUT

we can always go back.

Siun, what great news! I remember you said it would be easier for you to go if you could be a pro there, so yay. I can't wait to meet everyone. A funny note: I told my 21 year old about the trip and his response was, "How can I go to Vegas with my M O T H E R?" I had to twist his arm to admit, yet again, that I am a much cooler mother than most. Little twerp.

I just got back from a poorly spent hour trolling through the dregs of the latest lgf "Little Lady Sambo" post and I can't tell you how 'clean' the organic energy of FDL and it's commenting community feels. A Koufax to each and every one of you!

Jane, can't you have a trial post that you can pull down in case there's a FU? I would be happy to check it out.

Congratulations Jane and Christy! The Plame scandal brought me to FDL in the first place, and I have seen some amazing threads since.

I am also glad Josh got the recognition he deserves. A journalist of the top caliber, and like our hostesses here, a patriot who doesn't feel he has to drape himself with the flag.

to MSAnnaNOLA

OT: Got this from FirstDraft.com:There is something Very Important happening in Washington regarding New Orleans that is not getting attention.NOLA is a patient on life support and Bush is now deciding whether to pull the plug...if he will not release the money for the levee rebuild nobody will really move back to the city without good levees and he knows it....

Tell him, "STFU, you're going with your hip Mom to meet BobbyG and his totally rad Son Nick who's roughly your age. Chill."

BTW, Time has more info on DeLay.

Tom is really out? Good news, but after Padilla and House resol on NSA, still a loser day for me, but luckily there's yin to balance the yang -- CONGRATS - FDL, Siun, T-Rex, and anyone missed.

Gentleman Jim, I know a lot about NOLA. My wife is Director of Quality for Shaw.

Bush is probably gonna pull the plug. No one is gonna write any new insurance coverage. NO ONE. Absent that, no one will re-build. Bush ain't about to force 'em to, or step into the breach.
_

siun, a few threads ago you asked me if we first "met" on Billmon's thread.

I think the answer would be yes. I was one of his "regulars". I even helped re decorate the bar when he decided that it needed to be spruced up a bit.

I still head over there whenever he opens up. He serves fabulous stuff, but I do miss the gang.

Congratulations for outstanding work, perserverance and developement of FDL. When I came over here from Huffington Post in Oct. I didn't know what a blog was and had been a quiet watcher. Kinda happy to chip in here in there. Thanks for your kind tolerance.

Jane, are you going to try making the WP comments popups this time to take the pressure off the whole page having to refresh?

Congrats ladies!
A well deserved award.
and, ummmm.......if you see Digby around, can you please say that I have a major crush on erm....it.
Yum!

BobbyG
Florida 45, UCLA 27. A savage pummeling . Well, a metaphorical pummeling, anyway. Not like the actual pummelings DeLay will get in prison. Tee hee.

Tom Delay (R-Abramoff) is history? Yay!!

Thanks for the heads-up re WordPress. Fingers and toes crossed.

Echidne of the snakes

Congratulations to you too!

moi -- yes I have a major crush on Digby too.

Thanks Jane - I'll keep a special eye out for our FDL crew! and we all get to party in Vegas together!

and Zenn - my dtr refuses to go to Vegas until she's 21! (this last yr of non-21hood may do me in!) We're going to have a blast! I just really get a kick out of working when it's for stuff I love ... it's a nice balance to doing it all the time as work, ya'know?

But I'm still holding out for a Chicago Pancake Party for Fitz after he locks them all up for us!

Bush is probably gonna pull the plug. No one is gonna write any new insurance coverage. NO ONE. Absent that, no one will re-build. Bush ain't about to force 'em to, or step into the breach

I really recommend getting in touch with Scout Prime, over at First Draft. She's been doing a lot of work on this and is always looking for more information.

cleter -

I have it on. Losing interest. A colored folks whuppin'. Mild affinity for UCLA, given the time I spent there while my daughter was ill..

I HATE Florida. It's required, given that I am a Vol alum.

so Delay is also planning to quit Congress at the end of May ...

I always reserve the right to freak out. I just don't do it often.

something weird is happening-- I had posted several times and the entire comments section looks very different from the one I just left.........

Congratulations to FDL and to Jane and Christy. Great work. Great group of people.

Re Yearly Kos: Hope some of you are bringing your laptops and can blog to us from there. And I hope that no republicans crash the party -- I wouldn't put it past them. And hopefully cspan will be there. Have they been asked to attend?

Susan - I thought you looked familiar! I'm still over at Speakeasy occasionally and Okie is cranking it up again so drop by ... we're seeing it as our hideaway where we can talk non-pols in a quiet corner.

Well, i a way I'm sorry it was not Armando. I really wanted to talk shit to him about his fucking Yankees. Tweak him the way Gilliard so aptly did.

Tom Delay (R-Abramoff) is history? Yay!!

Coming soon...

Tom DeLay (Inmate - Huntsville)

Same here. It seems that a whole new haloscan thread started and ate up the posts that we originally put up.

Hungry Haloscan, burping all over the place.

Hoo boy, I got stuck in the parallel thread universe, but managed to get out dragging this comment for Paul Lukasiak:

Paul --

I noticed how truly gracious you were over at Wampum, wanting to take yourself out of the running for best commenter. What a guy! However, nonetheless YOU were my choice. You're the greatest, IMO. [Not to detract from anyone else, but ever since reading you at WaPo and dKos, I've been grateful for all you do!]
Mrs. K8 | 04.03.06 - 7:57 pm

BobbyG | Homepage | 04.03.06 - 7:57 pm OH OH- better go back and correct that one or you're gonna be accused of being racist... luckily I'm around to defend you, at least for another 15 mins or so....;)

GrandmaJ -

I eagerly await the FDL influx to my fair city.

Be ready to parrrrrr-TTTTTTT too.

Time to buy FDL shirts so we can wear them in Vegas and find one another. Gotta have the right duds on for the party!

Excellent point.

BobbyG
I'm watching it motly so I'll know when to run outside and stop the hooligans from flipping over my car and setting it on fire.

Finally figured out on my own why these are called the Koufax awards...is it because he was a "lefty?"

Ah, so!

wonder if Delay, Scooter and Rove are coordinating their wardrobes too?

BobbyG | Homepage | 04.03.06 - 8:03 pm

Nope. I draw on my get-outa-jail-free card.

How many of those do you have left? I mean, what about the drive into the empty swimming pool? That musta' used up a few...

BobbyG - I can't be there, but I expect to hear from you through all the laptops also in attendance. Hopefully the wifi reception will be very good inside the hotel.

So paaarty on my friend.

cleter -

I got 53-34, ~11 min left. Looks like Gators.

Oh, well.

new threadS

Bobby, I'll tell him. The idea of a huge arcade in the hotel helped along with the casino.

Thanks for the warning about the comments.
Gentleman Jim: I just saw that post too. I was checking out some of the other winners. It is a little depressing the thought of it. I am still hopeful that our wonderful country won't abandon us. Haloscan cutting me off...

Valley Girl -

LOL!!

Hug ((((((*!*)))))) to ya.

BTW, my Grandson's website (undergoing revision, click the pics), http://www.keenanstennis.net

Man, that SERVE (he's only 12)!

Jane --

Hope you got all my kudos in the twilight zone para-thread. I stupidly closed that window, and can't figure out how to get back to copy them and drag them here. (I hate when that happens in an alternate universe...)

Anyway, youse guys deserved the Koufax ten times over!

Hooray for FDL!!! Champagne for all! Drinking it out of snazzy ladies' slippers is optional...

We do a lot of important work here in Louisiana: oil and gas exploration, refining, seafood production (most of the crabs sold in Maryland are actually from Louisiana) (many of them are out of business at the moment) We have given our fair share of oil and gas revenues that have contributed to the depletion of our marshes which would have partly protected us from Katrina

We have paid our taxes to help pay for rebuilding New York and Iraq. There is no conceivable reason not to rebuild New Orleans.

Bobby G: I am not sure how you come to the conclusion that no one will write insurance. It would be devastating of course. I live in a dry area! You mean I can't get insurance?

Bobby G Hug ((((((*!*)))))) back at ya.

Can anyone help me with Haloscan even though it may be moot soon. I keep getting the "too many breaks" message even after I remove all the breaks.

It is really annoying. Particularly because I am long winded. :)

And Bobby G- hot looking grandkid. He must be a delight to you!!!

Congratulations to all on the Koufax awards and very much deserved for the fantastic job yall do.
I so wish that I could go to Yearly Kos and
especially for the panel. Are there any definite plans for live blogging?

Anna --

It's the long-winded bit that does it. I wish I knew how many characters is the limit, because I get that msg too often, too. And I kinda like the handy-dandy character counter -- it just isn't showing the ACTUAL current character # limit.

P.S. Mr. K8 and I will keep you in our prayers regarding NOLA and your family.

Off topic:
Bush is going to let New Orleans disappear.
There is no money t build the levees back to protect the city. All funds have been diverted to his pals making money in Iraq. Please write about this. My town is dying.

MaryMac --

It's an outrage what's happened to NOLA, still gets my b.p. into the dangerous range. I'll continue to hammer my reps, even if I don't think they're listening. I never used to find the thought of eternal damnation to be comforting, until this administration came to town and destroyed everything. NOLA is high on the list of atrocities.

Thanks Mrs. K8 we need all the help we can get.

Our mayor suggested just after the storm that maybe France would help us out since we have a historical connection with France!

France!!! Ok I love France but how rediculous is that? We can't get it from our own government so we were going to ask France.

My friend Heather just moved into her trailer with her six year old son and husband. He is a teacher and she is an architect. Their house is almost finished. I hope that they can get insurance, otherwise they are royally screwed!

Interestingly the trailer came with a care package from the People of Saudi Arabia! Kitchen essentials if I remember correctly.

Anna --

Didn't Hugo Chavez/Venezuela help out your neighbors, too?

Seriously, when I first heard about the idea of asking France for aid, I was hoping it would happen to shame these evil bastards. Not that they care, but in the eyes of God and the world!

MsAnnaNOLA-

Under Lousiana law, existing policies have to be honored. But, word is no new ones will be written. w/o that you cannot build.
