Reading stuff like this makes me so angry. Just now starting to catch up? What has he been doing all this time? And even now, he is apparently only visiting high schools for 2 out of the permitted 4 weeks during the summer recruiting period. Charlie Weis, in his first year, has recognized the importance of summer recruiting and is out on the road for the full 4 weeks. Pete Carroll has already visited schools in Seattle, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia and several California schools. We are supposed to be happy that Dorrell is "just now" starting to compete for kids in his own "backyard"? I am sorry, but it has become very clear that Dorrell does not have a chance against more experienced (Carroll) or even less experienced (Weis) head coaches. FIRE HIM NOW!

On another message board, someone asked why hadn't Dorrell visited Notre Dame High School, since it was right on his way home?
One of the Dorrelistas answered that this might not be possible if Dorrell worked from 6am to midnight every night. "What should the HS coach do, tell his players to wait around campus until after midnight so they can meet Dorrell?"
That is what passes for an excuse now.
Amazing if you contrast this guy's recruiting efforts to that of Coach Howland. King not withstanding, Howland now has our backyard locked up, while Dorrell just now is finding out how to get to the inner city schools. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. So fucking ridiculous.

Of course, Blindo will come up with a million good reasons why Dorrell hasn't visited a school like ND. Mav gave a perfect example.
But look at it from the perspective of a UO or UW fan, who usually are left with the scraps from both SC and UCLA. How absurd must it sound to Mike Belotti and Tyrone Willingham that Dorrell is not focusing on the talent right in his own backyard? I'd love to see their reaction to this article. You don't think they would kill for the type of access to Long Beach Poly and Notre Dame that Dorrell has at his disposal?
It's like if Larry Coker at Miami decided to spend most of his recruitng time in Maryland, when all of that ridiculous talent is right there under his nose.
As I said before, Dorrell is NOT...N-O-T...spending a lot of his time recruiting the inner city. Let's not be ridiculous.
Dorsey has two major prospects in the Class of 2006 - Stafon Johnson and Keith Browner. Guess how many times he's been there. Hint: as many times as he's had a winning season. Stanford coaches have been seen, other schools have sent piles of mail, and not a peep from UCLA.
I'm sure the next excuse will be grades. I look forward to shooting that one down as well, as I happen to know what kind of students these kids are.
