LOCK & LOAD

P.O.Ackly has a 2 volume book set on wild-cat loads. I believe in the beginning of the first volume, he has several chapters on killing power and wounds, along with the shock value, of various military rounds during the WWII periond. Most all of the testing was done on army mules.
Very good reading.

The Strousberg tests soured me on the validity of animal shooting, and thank you for the link. I'll take government sponsored over fake ass lies done just to sell books, any day.

I was lucky enough to get through medical school before they banned animal labs. It's not pleasant, but it's the best training you'll ever receive, and if you believe that people are more important than animals (a debatable assumption, in the eyes of PETA), you let your novices practice FIRST on animals. Simple as that.
"Advanced human simulators" are jury-rigged from foam rubber and tubing and they feel NOTHING like real animal or human tissue. Even the "bone" simulators are plastic abominations.
We still do a lot of practice on animal tissue - it's amazing what you can do for IV and intraosseous needle practice using chicken bones and beef ribs. If you restrict yourself to non-toxic interventions like food coloring, you can even eat the remainders, after you cook them some.
And if what I write causes heartache and ennui for the grade-A assholes from PETA, it's a lovely side benefit of its own.

I had no idea they'd banned animal tissue in med schools. Now I'm even more pissed.
