Merkel could be (inadvertently or otherwise) forcing the hand of the United States. With support for further sanctions degraded, "Global Strike" will likely be coming to a neighborhood called Natanz sooner than we thought. It is a disturbing change of direction for the new leader though, and I have to wonder just what she is thinking.
