I wish you wouldn't spam people with your "check out my http://theflack.blogspot.com website" emails. It's not very nice or useful to the people receiving the email.

Because the process -- pitching a story -- shouldn't be in the news. (Unless you write a very bad pitch to the media.)
Though, your point is well-taken. While PR pros -- and amateurs, I suppose -- should stay out of the limelight, the pitching process and the why behind it can be just as interesting as what is being pitched.
