I think it's your fault. I think you are so excited to share your present (I'm the same) that you unconsciously tell him this information through ESP.
I hid Paul's present (slippers. exciting) pretty much in front of him until I wrapped it because I know from experience that I can rearrange the living room without him noticing.
It is hard. Now that we have a kid I'm doing sappy stuff--look honey! coasters with the baby's pic in it! A mug with his footprint painted on it!
as for my dad, I've been reduced to neato paperweights for his office, now that the fishing and birdwatching things have just been beaten to the ground. jeez. it is indeed hard to buy guys presents.

Two days later, SO: I saw the tv you got us at your mother's.
Daughter: Yeah, you may have gotten me once, but it's not going to work again. There is no tv.
There is no tv, at least not at my house.
i'm going to st. louis to visit the family for 6 days. longest i will have been home for over a decade. ungh. but i'll be posting and checking e-mail from home. probably will be my only refuge.

I got my dad tickets to a play. But it's clear to me now that I should have gotten him a Jesus action figure.
EVERYBODY needs a Jesus action figure. Particularly cross-dresser Jesus.
