One of the things I love about this blog is that it combines something that I persoanlly have no knowledge of or personal interest in (porn, cuz I am a big prude) with something I am fascinated with (raising kids while trying to do something with your life). It always reminds me that you can't judge people and just when I think that I won't have anything in common with someone I am probably dead wrong.

"That's the Porn Superstore and me, only with lubricant."
- hee hee. Thanks for the laugh.
And what a surreal experience it would be, wheeling a cart through the maximum-security porn warehouse.
When I worked at the large porn company, we had a meeting my first day. We sat in rows of chairs in the warehouse, and as someone droned on, I scanned the giant pallets for interesting things. The only thing I can remember from that day is idly wondering about the big box of "XXX Playing Cards" that was parked right behind the company manager who was lecturing at that moment.

Does this company work with individuals as well as companies? I think it's really weird that they don't let you browse. Do they have a catalog that you can look through before you go there so you know what to ask for? What if they carry a product perfect for your store but you never knew about it? You might buy cases of it and make them a ton of money. No carts in the video aisle? The place it set up like Fort Knox. How are you going to leave without paying for something? Weird.

Valerie--I think the idea is precisely that you can't leave without paying for something. And if they let individuals in there? Just try to imagine the theft.
That being said, I would *love* to go in there sometime. Makes our health clinic entry policy sound like a casual stroll through the Lincoln Park Zoo. Buzzers and security guards just make me feel all special.
Yay for the Mimi link!
And good heavens, I thought you'd NEVER post, flea. I've been trying to do actual work this week without the online giggles, and it hasn't gone well at all.

Valerie - It's a wholesale company, so it isn't open to individuals. They seem to have a bit of a continuing problem with individuals wanting to come in and drool, thus the high security level. And they do let you browse, at least in the non-dvd area.
Theft of movies, and, more irritatingly, damage done to the boxes (stealing them, ripping off the covers, etc) is a huge problem for sellers. It isn't as much of a problem with lube and toys, and magazines just aren't as expensive (dvd's are ten times more expensive) so security is amped up accordingly.
They do have catalogues available to retailers.
The dvd area has a separate check out system from the rest of the store. They didn't want me pushing a cart from a different department in the dvd area, not only to cut down on potential theft, but also because the aisles are a bit narrow.

I think Tom Ridge needs to hire the Porn Superstore people as security consultants. Heh.

I'm personally still chuckling over "It's like WalMart, but with all-anal action."
How did I survive before I found you? I can't imagine.
