See, I don't think you need to be driven or goal-oriented if you have a killer sense of timing, and are (in a nice sense) opportunistic. I'm driven and goal-oriented, but my timing sucks. Can't think on my feet. This is why I don't have as profoundly helpful or satisfying a career as running a sex-toy shop for women, and you do.

I tell people I just fell into my major, but it's nothing compared to your story. (speak French + not afraid of the French + likes to travel = IR)

and i thought my reason for picking my major was goofy...(basically all the other majors i was interested in were impacted and my dad said he wouldn't pay for my wedding if i hadn't graduated in 4 years (which he was also paying for) so i picked English--writing, because it was something that came easily to me and i knew i could finish that in 4 years.

I lived in Morganton -- a hop, skip and a jump down the road from Valdese -- for about two years working at the local rag, The Morganton News Herald. So, yup, I'm familiar with the area. Part 2 ought to be a good one ...

Well, at least you got to spend some time around the Blue Ridge Mountains. My mother-in-law lives in Asheville, and it is now my dream city. Of course, I've only been there once...
