When I do binding off for a pattern knit in pieces, I always slip the last stitch on the row before the bind off, always with the yarn in front. This causes the yarn to wrap around the edge when you bind off,as well as making the bind off less sudden, and makes the edges much nicer and easier to sew up later.
I have one foot larger than the other also, as well as one leg just slightly longer! I always wear out my left shoe first, and I always have to get it just a bit small.
